An interesting tidbit from a ride last week. Riding my 04 Warrior the oil light came on. Never had it happen before and in 7000 miles never have had to really add oil ever. Stopped the sled and checked oil level. It was down. While looking around noticed some "brown" snow under the sled. Yep an oil leak. Was 40 miles from home so thought better have buddy go get some oil while I tried to find the leak. Took air box off and started up sled and it appeared to have an oil leak somewhere around the end of the oil filter. after getting 4 litres of oil headed for home. Took all 4 litres to get there, stopped every 5 miles to top up to be safe.
Once home took sled apart and found a small pinhole in the end of the oil filter. Hole was invisible to the naked eye but was big enough to drop 1 ltre (quart) every 10 miles. Changed oil and put on new filter used a roll of rags to clean up kand all was well.
The filter was changed about 400 miles prior to this. All I can think is that the filter was damaged when I installed it. There were no crinkle marks but perhaps the oil filter was dented ever so slightly weakening it. It's all I can think that would cause this. As I said this lasted about 400 miles. I suspect the filter popped the leak after running across the lake at 110 MPH. Must of built up a wee bit of pressure. Go figure.
By the way I had the opportunity to perform a lengthy test ride on a new Attack the other day and will give a report when I have time to write it up.
