I had a very difficult time getting my oil filter off this year to do my first oil change. I tried everything and I couldn't even find the right oil filter wrench and my dealer didn't even have one! So I went to a few Advance Auto part stores and the one didn't have anything I could use so I went to the other as a last resort and I told the guy there "do you have anything at all that could get this filter off" and I showed him the new one I need to put on. He walked around the store then said this may work and he opened a few packages to see if it would fit and sure enough it was perfect. They do have the same thing in larger sizes. This size in the pic is perfect for my RS Nytro Yamaha filter for those who need filter wrenches. I don't know if he miss charged me for it or not but it cost less than $5 Maybe this would help others and relieve a big headache like I had.

Would one of the Craftsman rubber-type strap wrench work. Attempting a vector and phazer tomorrow.

I'm not sure and I haven't seen one of them. If you can get the strap around the filter and get some leverage it should work fine. I just know I had a hard time finding one to get mine off so I wanted to share what I used so maybe if other people search the threads in the future they can look for what I used in a store.

That's what I use. I actually bought a new one yesterday, I have misplaced mine and I had a hell of a time getting the oil filter off for the first oil change on the Nytro a couple of weeks ago.buddhahead said:Would one of the Craftsman rubber-type strap wrench work. I use the rubber strap filter wrenches, I got the set of two. Used it on my oil change last season and they will fit all size filters
Ditto, used the Craftsman rubber strap wrench on my Nytro. worked slick

Thats the only way i can get my oil filter off my honda civic..i cant find anywhere that has a small enough one..so i just tap into the filter with a screw driver and break it free. Messy but works

The reason they hard to get off is morons over tighten, god I hate that. I have had to put a screw driver through a few filters in my time.

I used a screw driver and hammer on my first oil change, they must have had sumo wrestlers install them from the factory!Grimm said:Here is the oil filter wrench I used for my oil change.
I've also heard that punching through the filter using a screwdriver works too.
