anyone find an aftermarket filter that is the same lenght as the yamaha 1 ?? or will the longer wix 51358 work??

No aftermarket shorties that I know of.

Longer filters won't work in my '10 Vec LTX/GT. I'm assuming this is the case for the '08-'09 too, ever since the chassis switch?

A member on here did grind off some of the access door to get a longer filter on, but to me personally, I'm not gonna grind on a new sled just to save $8 on a stupid oil filter.

Yes, it's a joke that Yamaha has to A$$rape us $15 for a filter, but oh well, in this sport sometimes you gotta pay to play.

Supertech ST6607 sold at good old Walmart , somewhere on here someone posted a link to a filter cross reference site . It read that most OEM filters are just bought from the lowest bidder . There was a breakdown of all the filters made that fit
Wix was on top if i remember but just barely , Supertech was second in quality but rated best buy since theyre a third the cost of the WIX ones .
i think the only physical difference was case thickness and the Wix only had it beat there by microns of an inch . For $2.50 compared to $15 for a
Yamaha filter it was a no brainer . Do some searching on here and you may come across that link .

So how does the $15 per year (at most) put people in the poorhouse? Unless you put some 30k miles on per year, there's no reason to change the filter other than for summerization.

If there's nothing wrong with their oil filter then I assume you buy the slides, carbides, plugs, oil and everything else there too? Personally I'll save money wherever I can if the quality is comparable.

Here's my take:

Filter, 4qts. oil, 3 spark plugs, chain lube at the dealer= $70.00

Helping out my local dealer stay in business for when I need that last minute important part before a trip AND ALSO NOT having to go to Wally world=PRICELESS! ;)!

Good point.

But when I bought my first 4 stroke (used) I took it in for a seasonal tune up which was advertised at $289 because it was all new to me and I wanted some experts to give it a once over. They neglected to tell me that parts were not included so with taxes it cost me $410 to keep my dealer in business. Next time I'll just buy the parts and do it myself.
