Got a couple of good rides in last weekend and put on about 275. Machine has been sitting in the garage all week. Went to change the oil tonight and noticed oil on the ground when I moved the machine. Thought it might be the chaincase like the 16s I have been reading about. Turned out that there was some oil in the airbox and it leaked down into the belly and out the bottom. I drained the oil and cleaned the airbox out with soapy water. Is there a breather or something that could be clogged? Machine is a naturally aspirated 17 Stx with just under 800k. Hoping this is something simple that I can fix myself in the morning without having to take it in to the dealer next week or I will be riding the doo tomorrow. On another note, the oil line on the right in the picture seems to be loose on the bottom where the crimped clamp is. Could this be related? Is this something that needs attention? It turns on the bottom but doesn't slip off the barb or anything. Thanks for the help..

I just had my 1st service done today and was chatting with the tech while he did it. He said to check oil with the dipstick screwed down. If you just put it in with out turning it down, you get a low reading and then it can be over filled and it blows into the air box.
Added any oil lately?
Mine is at about the same mileage and didn't use any oil.

The two hoses in your pic are conected to the oil separator which can freeze after it accumulates water that's been Pulled from oil if your oil is to full a lot of people have had it blow into air box. You would have a ton if it was the separatorGot a couple of good rides in last weekend and put on about 275. Machine has been sitting in the garage all week. Thanks. I haven't added any oil since the factory fill and check it with the sled hot and the dipstick screwed in. I drained the oil yesterday. When I refill, I may not fill to the top and see if that helps. The oil lines in the pic go to the oil tank. I will take the separator off today and clean it out with brake cleaner just in case. Do you think my separator is defective? What is that worth if the dealer won't warranty it (sometimes I find it easier just to pay and do the work myself rather than take it to the dealer who may or may not know what they are doing)?

Had a lot of oil under my sled, and in air box. Seemed that it was over filled during oil change. Dealer told me that if you are an aggressive rider oil can get into the air box. They said that they usually leave the oil just a little low for very aggressive riders. I had no oil issues before oil change, but did after. Oil was at the top of the normal level without the dipstick screwed in. Brought it back to them after about 300 miles, they cleaned everything out, checked to be sure that was the only issue, and left it a bit low. Also, if you ever put it on its side or tipped sicnificantly, they said the same could happen. At first they asked me if I had ever rolled it.

Thanks. I will leave it a bit lower than full when I fill in back up. It hasn't been on its side...yet but I will be careful. I guess unless there is a reason not to, I will ride it and see how it goes.
