Hi fella's : I have a a 2015 ltx le, I've read the posts about the 14`s puking oil into the airbox because of a separator problem, but what I'm seeing is residual oil in my airbox that after a few rides it seeps through the seem and builds up enough to drip out of the drain hole all over the chassis and eventually my garage floor..Any ideas how to fix this? I have had it to the dealer, they did not see anything, right now the level is slightly under full.
Any ideas or suggestion would be great thanks

Has to be overfull or Seperator valve could be stuck. Only other thing that could do it is blowby and a lot of it. If dealer think its at right level and seperator is right have them do a leakdown test. This is a NA sled right?

Yes N/A , when I picked the sled up new from the dealer(which coincidentally is no longer is a Yamaha dealer , so I have to use another dealer for warranty). I put a couple of rides on it , checked the oil and it WAS over the full line on the stick, I took some out with a turkey baster, it has been serviced since, could it be still from those first few rides??? I have not had the separator off.
Thanks

Yes it could very well be residual oil in airbox. Lots of area for it to sit. Makes sense.

Thanks cannondale, Just to be safe I think Im goona pull the separator, clean it and probably have a leak down test done, off to the lake to try dial my Heavy hitter kit in.

Wouldn't it be ok to have "too much oil" in the oil tank since this engine uses a dry sump setup.

I would say as long as your oil level is same if you can put up with the mess for now it will eventually stop dripping. Wouldnt hurt to clean that seperator though.

To a point. Really no. Oil should be where it is supposed to since venting depends on it. Is some leeway though and oil level is notoriously hard to check. Warm engine till fan comes on,Shut it off,Wait 30 seconds and check level.

there should be a recall on oil separator

My brothers apex had lots of oil in air box but he never did clutching and gears and was banging off rev limiter causing it to puke in air box. Maybe hitting rev limiter too???

Separator problem seemed to be more with the turbos. I remove and clean (with soap and water) the air box at yearly service, bin doing that since wife's 06 Rage. 4 Strokes breath, (see PCV) on automotive engines since 1900.

Mine is stock and all way leaks oil on in air box down the vent tube all the time

Not sure if its exactly the same setup but I had an '11 nytro that had the same issue. Turned out the oil was too full. Owners manual spec's that the oil fill dipstick needed to be screwed in to check level, but after an oil change I had oil on my floor as well. It was under warranty so I took it in to have them investigate. They informed me that the oil was up to spec but was too full. New procedure was to just put the dipstick in without screwing it to check level. Might be the same situation. My '15 DX only takes 3L to fill as opposed the recommended 3.2- 3.3L to fill to max. Just my .02, hope it helps.

DrVis make sure you are not over filled

Cannondale27, our vipers require 3.8L of oil. How much would be too much? Sorry but I'm still not understanding how too much oil will cause oil to leak from the oil Separator vent line. Now if the oil tank had a vent line I could see oil leaking.
