I was wondering if it is normal that the oil lamp is on for about a minut or three when I´m doing a "cold" start?
What I mean is that the snowmobile have been outside for about a day or two in the cold and then I start it.
I have trippel checked the oil level and everything seems fine.

Are you sure its not the water temp light?. That will stay on untill the sled is warm enough to drive. Shane

Yes, from my understanding the water temp light is the red one. I will not move the sled until that one have disappeared.srxpert said:Are you sure its not the water temp light?. That will stay on untill the sled is warm enough to drive. Shane
It´s the yellow light plus the oil picture on the display.

Mine dose the exact same thing sometimes when I start it in the really cold weather.(-30C and below) Most of the time for me it doesn't come on till I go to move the sled. Was a little concerning the first time it happened. Turn off the key and start it back up and it goes out though. Like you oil was fine so I've just ignored it since. Just something to do with the thicker oil I assume.

Mine does the same but seems to do it more often if the sled sits all night and isnt perfectly sitting on level ground

Same here. Full synthetic and only if its sat outside for a few days. I shut it off and re-start it and all is good

I think so, have not changed oil since the levels are good and the last owner said he had changed for this season.canoehead said:Are you running full synthetic?
Yea this is something that I noticed yesterday, the sled was parked on level ground and then everything started without any issues.mike3577 said:Mine does the same but seems to do it more often if the sled sits all night and isnt perfectly sitting on level ground

When my sled sat in that deep cold it would do the same thing. Temp light would be on until it warms up, them yellow oil light would come on. Both times it would go out once the throttle was touched and rpms came up.
Spoke to my dealer, said it was no big deal. Sensors are just picking up the improper oil flow until oil gets more viscous and flows more freely.
If we continue to get cold snaps like that I would consider putting on the engine coolant heater (block heater) from Yamaha and plug it in for an hour or so prior to riding.

Mine did it last year for the first time on a very cold morning. I added oil to bring the level up to Max on the dipstick, and did not get the light again last season.
It happened again last week on a -5F morning. I just ignored it because I knew the oil level was good, and the light went out as soon as I went a couple hundred feet.

Mine does the same thing. The dealer told me it was from the oil settling into the base out of the oil canaster. The sensor is on the canaster and takes a while for the oil to get back up there which is why it goes out once it's been running a while. This is why it's so important to run the sled for 15 minutes before checking the oil. Just the opposite of what I do with everything else I own.
