My 11 rs venture was leaking oil, it was a loose filter. I could have taken it off with one hand very easily. Tightened it up and no more leaky.

I'm quoting old information so maybe anyone can answer. My manual for an '05 RX1(I would think it would be the same as the Venture) states to check the oil W/O screwing the dipstick in. Mine is at the full mark. Only rode it once since topping it off and haven't looked for blowing oil yet......... Is that proper procedure?

Well... I'm gonna keep doing it my way. I have changed my own oil on all four of my 4-strokes & the ONE time I filled per manual, it puked into the airbox.
That said, since then it's been carefully add oil until it's on the 1/2 full mark with dipstick screwed in.
IMO, the manual is wrong, just like it's wrong about the fiddle string track tension setting.

the dealer just refers to it as the oil pan. maybe it is the crank case. Not sure. a new one not to bad at $118 but the only problem is the labor. the whole engine needs to be removed. After checking with a Yamaha dealer they say they cap this repair at 15hr's(most likely will take about 20). So just getting hit hard for labor. I think I learned a lesson. Currently 45 and pouring rain out so not missing too much. The trails are getting hit hard.
