it's been awhile and i know i should have come up with a better sign in name but here is my problem. 03 rx1 put in a yammy shop for service, they call and tell me its ready but theres a problem with sensor , wire is fraied and it shuts down,i know when it went in it wasnt in perfect shape but after looking at it theres no question oil sensor was removed with rough hands now they think i should put a new harness on [$500.00] i dont think so. question :can somebody give me some ideas of a cheaper fix, can i solder new conectors on for now or is there more to it than that the wire has been pulled so it's inside the plastic housing. thanks for the great site

It is not clear to me what is bad. Is it the sensor, the connector on the sensor, the connector on the harness or the wire to the harness connector?
You can replace any section of the wire by soldiering in and insulating similar wire sections.
You can replace the connector halves by soldiering directly to the sensor a couple wires, cut the connector off the harness and putting on some other two conductor connector (e.g. molax connector).
The sensor can be replaced by ordering a new one or maybe you can find one in our classifieds or on Ebay. If you get a new sensor, the connector is already on it.

the plug on top of the oil gauge is where the problem is, the wires seems to have been streched in side the plastic clip on conector so the contact is bad, sled is still at dealer so i cant have a good look at it what i was wondering was can i cut both wires back about 3" from the conector and just solder a couple of femail[i think] ends to the top of oil gauge /dipp stick .thanks

There is no oil gage. Do you mean the Oil Level Sensor on the top of the oil tank? You should be able to get a new Oil Level Sensor for < $500. ?
But why would they want to put on a new harness to replace the Oil Level Sensor's connector? Is the problem the Connector, on the harness, to the Sensor bad? If so, I already addressed how to substitute that.

guess i'm not the greatest at decribing but yes the conector that goes to oil tank has been broken and they are telling me it can't be bought on its own ,i must purchase a new wiring harness . , i took your info you had given me to them and [at this point they are still saying it was broken when it came in] well now the heat was on, i held my ground , by the time it was over they amitted to the damage done and are going to get a harness and take part need , thanks for your help Len Todd
