There isn't any one magic gauge that will tell you everything you need to safely run a given boost/octane/compression ratio. Wideband A/F is one tool to give you accurate information that you need to determine your set-up. If you were baking a cake, it would help you get the flour and the eggs right. You still need to know the water, baking soda, temp etc. to actually make a cake.
This is why two apparently similar sleds can actually perform drastically different. Having instrumentation that will give you accurate data, and then knowing what to do with the information is what makes all the difference. Some guys are just better bakers.
2 stroke guys are still trying to figure out how to not burn the cookies...

Thanks for the good information. I burn cakes, I wonder if that is a sign???????

buy a barrel of race fuel and add alittle on the safe side, I run alittle more than I need for the boost I run, but I know I am safe, its alot cheaper in the long run than rebiulding a motor.

Onrof, what's the verdict on your engine. Did you do the compression check or tear it down yet ?

preliminary verdict- 126, 0, 125, 126.
it is not a stuck ring...and i can see the piston move up and down. Can't see how number 2 can read zero? Odds on just a valve stuck open?
Anyone got a set of takeoff stock pistons/rings they could send out asap?
email onrof@hotmail.com I'm in SW michigan for christmas.
And I thought I wouldn't get to play with my snowmobile this week!
We will be tearing her down tuesday, too big a job for just me.

I've got three stockers with only 800 miles on them that I'd make ya a good deal on but if you have to go the piston route why not put in low comps so there's a bit of a safety margine built in,, Ken.

When you take that motor apart you'll see why it reads zero, mine had about 1/4" dia hole melted clean through the piston.
I have 4 nearly new rod and piston assemblies that I will sell.

Has anyone used 104 octane boost with 93 octane fuel??
I was thinking about just adding boost to be safe while backpacking across the UP...

Again Brett, it will do next to nothing for you. It typically raises the octane less then one true point.
