Hi,
It has happened to me as well. The oil tank has cracked. It is a common problem, but there are surprisingly few picture of it. So here goes.
Here with JB-weld.
My plan is to buy an new after market one. But for now i will give JB-weld a try.

Thanks for the info. I have ordered a new tank from CFM. Hope it will turn up in a near future.
Even if it will hold up, it will be in the back of my head when riding. I'm not a fan of these magical epoxies, even if JB-WELD is one of the best.

The JB weld will probably hold forever to be honest, that stuff is amazing, lol.
I broke 2 oil tanks last season, both of them split on the seam.

I used it on a car oil pan once and on a gas tank. It held for years on both occasions

does the cracking come from getting hit by something or just poor design?

Poor design In my opinion. I've cracked a few of them then put some rubber washers on the last one between the tank and the chassis it bolts to, lasted 3 times longer right up until I sold the sled. Now I see Yamaha sells a oil tank saver kit, I have not really checked them out but looked in pictures like a more professional version of what I did. Aftermarket places also sell fabricated ones instead of the 2 halves like oem.

I don't know if the previous owner has hit something. It started leaking last winter and gotten worse when a change oil and o-ring. I think the crack got bigger when i removed the bottom hose and had to wiggle it to get it lose. The aluminium is very thin so it's not suprising that it has cracked.

Seems like I remember seeing it in the accessory catalog. Can't seem to find anything on it though. Looks like u sell a kit for it also.
I'm sure that kit is fine, pretty good reputation with anyone u have dealt with here on ty

I have ordered a CFM after market tank. It hasn't arrived yet, but it is transit.
I have had one ride with JB-welded tank (100 km) and so far no leaks.
