Ok new to Yamaha. I picked up a 09' Nytro MTX and would like to change oil. First thing what oil to run (weight semi syn full syn)? Second I read something about not tipping the machine on the oil tank side? Also I would like to install a skid plate how would that affect future oil changes?
Thanks
Thanks

I run a Kendall full syn 5w30. It has superior numbers for all cold weather performance. The yamalube is a semi syn oil. The skid plate has to be removed whenever you do an oil change. The problem I when you roll it on it's left side. The oil runs out into the airbox. Get you a rollover valve from oft racing that has a tether built in.

Roest plate for sure, I run Mobile1 0w-30.
Mobile 1 0-40 is what I run.
My new skid plate is a major PIA to remove but I figure it only has to be done once a year so I would rather have a bomber skid plate and deal with the oil change in the off season.

Holy cow i just about have evry wieght out there. I believe the manual says 0W-30. Is that correct? I will see some cold mornings and that is my main concern. Just want to make sure it starts everytime.
So roll it to the right (oil tank) side?

I am running Amsoil 0w40 full synthetic right and i have run mobil 1 0w40. The roest skid plate is nice but it needs a hole between the Aarms right under the sub frame to let the snow/ice out. Mine is bowed out after one ride. I am going to take it off and cut out a large hole.

Yes it's safer to roll it on to the right hand side due to the way that the breather hose is routed up to the air box.
If you roll it on to left hand (clutch side), depending on the angle oil will pretty much pour out in to the air box through the breather line.
I use 0-30 Yamaha 4 stroke sled oil, may try 0-30 mobil 1 next time though.
