He recommends NO synthetic oil for first 1500 miles. What oil is everyone who follows this break in procedure using?
I have about 150 miles on my sled WITH the Yamaha 0W-30 semi syn oil already. plan to change oil before next ride... hopefully that happens before 2014

I use yamalube 0w40 right after 500mile break-in on two sleds with no oil used

Yamalube 0W-40 full synthetic. It contains ester too. Amsoil doesn't.

I ran the 0w-30 semi syn oil first3 oil changes now running amsoil in it. Over 6000 miles on it with no problems

I have 16 quarts of Amsoil powersport 0W-40, that i will sell at a good price. All bottles are unopened. Pm me if interested.

It needs to go. Taking up shelf space. :sled1:

It's just one of the synthetic bases used to make it. what it boils down to is marketing, they put that on the bottle so you think you getting something extra. they both are great oils and way better than conventional oil

That was a whole lot of info. I found this in the article "In automotive applications, the first qualified synthetic crankcase motor oils were based entirely on ester formulations". I also found on www.amsoil.com that "AMSOIL developed the world’s first API-qualified synthetic motor oil in 1972". I can't find any info that says Amsoil does not use ester, so I'd have to agree with the marketing thing. I might be wrong but it seems most synthetics have some sort of ester content to give them desired properties.
