This topic has probably been on here several times but I am new. Manual says yamalube 0-30, quite sure it is not synthetic. Wondered if castrol 0-30 synthetic would be a better oil for this application, says on the container it flows better than any oil at low temps, anyone using it? I see lots are using amsoil, that stuff is rich mans oil around here. Have heard mention of mobil 1 0-30 but haven't seen that around here anywhere. Anyone know who makes yamahas oil? Thanks for the replys.

run a good quality regular oil 5-30wt. untill engine is broke in, apprx. 1500 miles. switch to synthetic of your choice also 5-30 after that.

Says 0-30 in the 05 manual, is that for the real cold morning starts? Also says do not use energy conserving. The older 03 says 5-30. Not sure about the starter clutch issue it mentions in the manual. Says yamalube has special additives to protect the clutch in there.

I still use the Yamalube. It kinda takes the questions out of the scenario. Also, I do not have oil consumption after 8K miles either. In '05, they went to 0-30 wt, which is better for cold areas. But, I got mine to start at -40 Degrees C with 5-30 wt. But, it did have to be cranked for a while.
