Re: Break-in
You are not going to make any friends here being a newbie and posting stuff like this . Yes you are entitled to an(your)opinion , but you are trying to say we(owners) did not break in properly .Yes some did not follow the book but there are lots of facts and figures out there that go against what the book says.
I myself did resist the temptation that you speak of and I did follow it to the letter andf I still burn oil.
Try not to accuse before you know the facts

I think a lot of people who bought RX-1s could not resist the temptation to take it to the lake and open it up right away.
It takes a 4-stroke a really, really long time to get broken-in.
I dont own an RX-1 but I believe they want you to start the sled and let it idle for 20 minutes, then shut it off and let it cool down and then do that same thing again twice more. Then I believe they want you to ride around slowly for 30 minutes and shut it down and let it cool.
I believe that even after 500 miles they dont want you to push it past 1/2 throttle. Only after 1,000 miles do they say its OK to run it wide-open.
For some people, its more than they can bear. Here you have this hot new sled that is supposed to be fast, but yet you arent supposed to open it up.
Part of it also might be that people are running the cheapest oil they can find rathar than running oil that is of good quality.
You cant treat these engines like they are a lawnmower. If you do they wont last.
