Old news, good read

Good article, it makes me believe the Viper may not be around very long. It allows Yamaha dealers a sorely needed new product but I wonder if it might get replaced in the next season or two? Then again, Yamaha will have its work cut out for them to produce a more capable bump sled. Five new sleds in 5 years could mean addressing all the other models and segments. They are lacking in the entry, utility and mountain segments. Hard to predict what they are going to do.

I am thinking the same thing in regards to the viper. I am thinking one or two new complete chassis for the whole model lineup.

The Apex is due for a replacement. Sure would be nice to see that awesome 4cyl slung low in a new lightweight Yamaha chassis & not shoehorned into something it was never meant for.

The Yamaha Rep at the demo ride said the Viper will be around for 3+ years. I'm assuming as long as its Arctic Cat's goto chassis there will be a Viper based off it. I really think Yamaha first new chassis will be a new 90-100hp class sled in a "do it all" chassis, that's what is REALLY needed. The bulk of sled sales for other manufactures are in the 600 class and others are starting to work on the "OLD" 500 class size sleds. The Skidoo 600ace far exceeded sales expectations and I'm pretty sure the new 900ace is going to sell very well also. Something of a phazer/vector hybred with 100hp sounds good to me if they keep it under 9000$

Sounds good, hate to get a viper and yammie comes out with a sled to replace the nytro and I kick myself in the a....... but thats the risk you take

Sounds like they are just going to make the pro-cross chassis better.....it would be smarter to just have one chassis with different engines and build off this platform .....I'm good with it ;)!

Well sell it and get what ever is out then......I now I'm not riding on this nytro anymore ...

Funny you say that, my wife mentioned that sarcastically of course lol

Seems like they need a smaller, entry level sled. Something simple, smaller in size and most importantly inexpensive. Polaris has a bunch of sleds for '14 that are reasonable in cost for what sleds go for these days. But none of them are less than full size.

What got me thinking that this type of sled is needed is I bought another used Indy Lite 340 for my son but its a bit to big for him. My wife loved riding it today. Then my Dad rode it and he really liked it. My 10 yr old daughter loves her 340 and you can't even buy a brand new sled to replace it. That seems crazy! I think if Yamaha used a Grizzly 4-wheeler motor and Ultramatic tranny in a smaller sled they'd sell a ton of them. The most important thing is it would have to be inexpensive. If it has too many bells and whistles it won't sell. It needs to be light, reliable and handle decently. I don't now how much power an Indy Lite 340 has but it's good enough. Just enough zip to make it fun in tight areas to play but not enough to intimidate anyone. Make sure the motor has a radiator and fan that allows it to be able to be ridden at slow speed without overheating. A fan cooled 2-stroke works just fine for that but there is not reason they can't do it with a liquid cooled 4-stroke. My 4-wheeler and truck don't overheat when there isn't enough snow available on the road or trail. Neither should a snowmachine.
