I have a question on oil so bear with me if you would. I decided to go with Mobil 1 0-30 synthetic. I don't necessarily want to know what others are going with because there is a lot of good oil out there and I chose this rout because I would think it would be pretty easy to find if I had to. My question is the previous owner said the machine never used oil. He always used Yama brand non synthetic. If I switch to full synthetic and it starts to use oil how hard is it to switch back? The main reason I decided to switch is not so much the price but the fact that the nearest Yammy dealer is about an hour from me. My second question is to how much oil. I have an 06 Attak and the owners manual say like 3 quarts without filter, 3.2 quarts with filter and then it say's 4 quarts total?!?! I am a little confused on this one. Also all the oil goes into the side tank. 2 quarts first, start it let it warm up. Then shut it down and fill rest of way in side tank?? Am I correct there? And last question is how full?? I would assume that all the way to the full mark but then I have read on one of the post on here that you need to be half way between the full and empty line. Thanks for bearing with me one more time on a subject that to some of you probably has been beaten like a dead doo but I can't seem to find all the answers I want.

Hey Doug. I don't think you will have a problem going back to a petro based oil if you choose. Most oils are compatable with syn.

The amount of oil is correct. The total amount that the machine takes is around 4 qts. However you can never get all the oil out of the machine so if you change the oil filter with the oil you will need just over 3qts.

Your procedure for changing the oil is also correct. You fill the oil tank to the top of the hash marks on the dip stick. Then let the machine run and the oil will circulate. Then check it again, it will be down some, add oil until the level is at the top of the hash marks on the dip stick.

You have to do this procedure to avoid air bubbles between the engine and the tank. Its a pretty easy procedure once you do it a couple times

This, of course, is how I do things. Others may have other opinions or procedures.....
