So have a question for you guys in other states. Who determines the opening and closing of trails depending on snow conditions??? Where im at the official opening is after deer season, im sure like everyone else out there. But do you guys have a minimum snow depth??? Or just let people use common sense???

Dec 1st for most trails in Mich. Providing we have 4" or more.. Jan. 1st on marked trails in deer hunting areas........So many times our feeder trails are closed until Jan. 1 That means our main trails are often cut off even when they are open.. MM.:dunno::o|

Varies around my area (Madison WI area)

None open until Dec. 1st, then it's a general 6" minimum. Some will open at 4" (old rail beds)

Some counties also ask that you stay off if temp is at or above 34* during the day. A lot will just plain close if the forecast calls for more than two days above 34*.

In Vermont the trails don't open till after December 15th and also you aren't supposed to ride till they are groomed. Once the trail is groomed the first time that means that trail is officially open.

Dec 15th in North Dakota, determined by state Parks and Rec. Don't remember exactly, but I think it is 4 inches of compacted snow before they will open any trails. Interestingly enough, a lot of the state trails are road ditches, and it is not legal to ride in them without the snow depth. Riding on the other side of the road is entirely legal... go figure.
