ok so i got out on my FX today for the first extended ride with new ulmer clutch kit and 136x1.75 track...i went to a 17tooth top gear too....
i am only seeing 10800rpm WOT...it goes up to 11600or so and then drops down...dream o meter says about 75-77mph....im not worried about top speed as most of my riding is off trail..also seeing around 45-47ish mph track speed WOT in the deep snow....if i remember correctly belt should be just outside(or "on top) of the edge of secondary....1300miles on sled, how long should belt last???
might need to change the spring setting on secondary...????
thoughts/ideas anyone???
thx in advance....
also, sled is 100times better ride with the long track....way less engine braking and it is much smoother ride....

As long as you don't burn the belt up from a stuck in the powder it will last a long time.
I have over 5000 miles on the same belt ... should get another half season at least out of it.
here is where the belt is sitting in secondary....also, what does moving the spring in the secondary to a different setting do for me?? i would rather avoid that if possible as i have no clue how to do it and dont wanna screw it up....i dont have any special tool that might be needed to disassemble the clutch....
let me know your thoughts....i think belt might be sitting too low....

Belt looks way too low. The top of the belt cogs should be above the secondary. At least that is where my Apex sits.
thats what im thinking too....now how to fix....new belt??? spring in secondary??

A new belt should certainly help. If the secondary in the Phazer is similar to the Apex, you should be able to add some shims to adjust the with of the secondary as the belt gets worn. You shouldn't need a new spring.
Take off the secondary and take OUT a shim. That will bring the sheves closer together and raise the belt. As for the wrap on the spring I talked to Allen Ulmer and he told me to change the setting to A-2. Try it and report back. I would but ther is no snow yet. Rain this morning and 53* Trails are sopose to open on monday. Hopefully there is snow north from where I live. :exc:
shim is inside the seocndary correect?? gotta pull it apart right??? there a special tool i need for that?? and is there some tips on how to put this thing back together??? i was reading in the manual i have and it says somehting about a spring angle...how is that set???
You only need snap ring pliers to take it apart. The two ends of the spring go in to the A on one side and the 1 on the other side. There should be tow shims in side it . Take one out and put it back together. If you did a clutch kit , it is a simple as that. I hope this helps you.
thx!

your belt is riding at the right height. it is supposed to be 1/8 of a inch below the sheave, but i heard there are benefits if you take out the washers inside the secondary to make it ride higher.
I would try setting you secondary to b-1 first, it is less of a jump than a-2 and is what mnt lites are set at. but another good way to tell is to touch test cluches to see if they are getting hot. if they are you have alot of slipping going on. you can also lighten up your tip rivets in primary to increase yout top RPM. Just a few suggestions.

The stock secondary setting is A-1 setting. The B-1 setting would be a little better, it will vary slightly on the conditions you are running in as well. Fluff/deeper snow will work it hard than say the hardpack after everything has been ridden on. Here is a chart for the secondary spring settings and the degrees they equal.

thx everyone for the help....
I mostly ride off trail in deeper, unpacked snow... i hate trail riding and avoid it as much as i can....i dont care about top speed, i want it to work well in the deeper snow...
so i think ill go with b-1 for now and see what happens....also, what does changing spring setting do?? make the secondary spread open later???
thx all

Tighter slows the opening of the secondary slowing down the shift and raising the rpm.
Looser speeds up the opening of the secondary speeding up the shift and lowering the rpm.
