I recently upgraded to a Nytro RTX SE and now worry a little about the lack of wind protection for my face and the potential for my shield to fog up. I have a HJC helmet and have thought about upgrading to a heated shield. I don't want to get a open face mask..
Are they worth the hassle of having a cord dangling around while you're driving?

I feel like they are worth the hassle of the chord. I had an open face helmet last season then bought a nytro this past summer and use my older HJC helmet with heated shield a lot. The chord really isn't much of a hassle and I have yet to have my shield fog up. It is a newer helmet and shield so if you have a newer HJC helmet (within the last 5 years) it should work just fine for you. I know the Modular helmets are supposed to work good but they are quit spendy and I dont like the looks of them (personal preference).

thanks for the reply, I've never actually used them before, are you able to remove the cord all together and use the facemask as is or is the cord permanantly connected to the shield? I'm just wondering if it's possible to just throw the cord on my pocket and only use it when needed, or do you have to swap out the entire shield?

no cord
The cord is two pieces, short double male at helmet, longer coiled fem to male. both come off, just an RCA type plug.
lots of use will usually end up in cord failure. I personally gave up dealing with the uncertainty of power or not and where's the problem BS and went to the BV2S after buying several shields at close to $100 a pop. I am finally happy.
Oh yeah, they do work well, when they work!

Cord plugs into the face shield. Its a simple RCA plugin. You may disconnect the cord at any time.

When i use my electric shield, I run the cord down the inside of my jacket, out the bottom and then to the plug. The cord doesn't get in the way at all. Well worth it imo.

Only in the way when you go to get off and forget to unplug. Some run the cord down their left sleeve to a plug on the handlebars, but that would get in the way if you let go of the left bar to turn and look behind you for other riders. I ran mine as Grimm stated out the bottom of my jacket. Only reason I no longer use it is I went to a BV2S for the benefit of the sun shield during the day and then flip it up when darkness arrives.

I currently run an HJC helmet with the heated shield and love it. I have not run into any situations where the cord got in the way with it left outside of my coat. Don't think I will have a helmet without one in the future.

I love it as well. We rode with folks who had open face with the clear wind block and with some snow/sleet they iced up. Ours stayed soft enough to wipe off.

X2, just purchased a HJC Hellion this year with my first ever heated visor,,,,still can't figure out why I waited so long to get one!

I love it, no fog, no haze, no build up of snow dust, nothing.
I also run my cord inside my jacket.
