Yes, I know, to very different topics. With the season over and activity on TY slowing down, I thought I'd livin things up a bit. So with Summer almost here, many of us are considering mods for our machines. Two mods I've been considering for my 09 RTX is a new track and a turbo.
Track first: Yes I know all about the Freeride and the good reviews it has received from riders compared to the stock Rip-Junk. But, I'm seriously considering stretching my 121 out to 128 and cutting down a 15" wide track to 14". There are many options here. My first choice is to purchase a new Cobra1.325 track and cut to 14" (the expensive choice) or cut down a track I already have, a stock 121"x 1.25 ripsaw with studs. Either of these 2 choices would be better than stock. Or possibly an Ice-ripper variant. Do any these options in a 128" represent a better choice than the 121 Ripsaw or Freeride?
Now on to the turbo. I've never been a big fan of turbo's. But, with s/c's almost impossible to find, they represent the only other choice. I know MCX offers 2 different choices for the phasers, a 115 hp version and a 140 hp version. Anybody have any knowledge of these 2 kits? What is the difference between the 2 besides price and hp? I'm thinkin boost for one. I have not yet contacted MCX to question them about it.
The track swap is most likely gonna happen. The turbo, I'm on the fence about. I'm sure it would be as blast to ride but, the cost and work required to make it live reliably is a big issue. Especially on an older machine, the swap would likely cost more than the sled is worth and NOT increase the value appreciably.

I think twice about cutting down a cobra, the paddles on the outsides are supported mostly by a big cone that's right on the outside edge of the track. I'm not really happy with the durability of the 1.6 Cobra on my Viper either, a lot of lugs cracking at the base, though the 1.3" may not have issues with that. The 1602-503 Arctic cat track looks like a good option, Its a 128x13.5 with 1.325" straight paddle lugs.
Turbo would not add value for others $ wise but it DEFINITLY would just be insane FUN on a Phazer. So small and light with big power would just be so much fun. $ isnt everything. Its on my bucket list of things to do to my Phazer someday when kids are done with it.Yes, I know, to very different topics. Turbo install takes time but you can do it yourself. I did mine on my RX1. The biggest problem with a turbo is that nothing will satisfy you after having one.
