How durable are these skids for midwest trail riding aggresively? I know the trails get rough in the UP, will this skid hold it's own?

These are THE beat-the-living-crapp-out-of-it skids to have. Very simple design, very solidly built. Thats not to say that you can't break anything on them (everything mechanical can be broken), but they are probably the most durable skid you can get.

I second LB on that.
So far, I've managed to wear-out a limiter strap - that's it. And I ride the UP trails you speak of.

Well, I just ordered it today. I've got the skid with the DTS and mounting kit and the rail ext. to run 136". I allmost went witht he 144" but I was affraid my trail speed through the trees ( curves ) would have to slow down because of the biger push. I think the 136 should be great for me. It will help when ever I get around to getting the Turbo in there. Can't wait until the package arrives.

I don't think you want bigger wheels on this skid. You'll already have to remove the tunnel protectors to get the clearance you need.

I'm sure that's what you had to for your '03, but I talked to the guy at sled tech, and I don't have to remove them and I can run studs. Once I have the parts here, I'll see. MattzX6 put a 144 in his Apex. I'm sure I'll run a few studs so this may be an issue for me. I've noticed alot of guys running studs with an expert. Do you mean to say that all of them don't have the protection needed? I really don't care about the 8" wheels, but I do want the studs in there. Maybe it's me, but how does the 8" rear wheels affect the top of the skid? It's been a long day and I may be missing something.LOL

136" Expert X with 4 8" rear wheels. Contact VX7R on this site and he can tell you how he did it. No studs but 1.5" track lug. 1" diameter rear axle, Avid sells an 8" open plastic wheel for a 1" axle if you don't want billet or put plastic on inside and save bucks. The looks speak for themselves.

Yes, here is another showing the remote adjust he had installed for the dual rear shocks.

That extension alomost looks like it is universal for either size wheels. I'll see when the stuff gets here. I did not know about the remote adjust though. I may not need that, but it is kool to know there are some extras I can do.lol

Thats a Viper with a 136, tunnel is different from RX. Doesn't matter what year it is, the tunnel is the same. With a 121" track, tunnel protectors and studs may be possible. With the longer skids, the rear of the skid lifts up higher in the tunnel. Mounting the skid lower might help, but the RX running boards are very high in the tunnel compared to other sleds (like Viper), so there isn't much room to lower it for the clearance.
The problem happens under TAIL LANDING. With the straps fully extended and the back of the skid being pushed up, it is possible for the wheels to drive into everything back there. The bigger the wheels are, the further up the top of the wheels will get.

One more tip:
Any fasteners that you install; be sure to use Lok-Tite and torque to AD Boivin specs. I have broken one off (think it was over tightened); and had one loosen and back out until it wore thru the runningboard heat exchanger.
