I rode this weekend on my 05 in some marginal conditions. It felt like I was on my Viper again before I installed a rear heat exchanger. I think I remember reading of an after market one on this site. Today, I spoke with Maximum Performance and Bender Racing. None of them make one as of yet. Has any one else experienced this? I rode with 5 other sleds (all non Yamaha) and I am the only one with the light that came on. I did fell both heat exchangers under the running boards and they both felt the same temp.
Thanks!
Thanks!

If it is the 121" shorty there is a stock part number, dealer has to call in order not on computer at least as of 2 weeks ago, # 8ET-RHRCR-KT-00 it's about $85.00us you have to cut a larger hole on one side to get the tubes through but is very easy to install, my dealer charged $60.00 to install it which I thought was decsent since it took 45 minutes just to cycle it twice for bleeding air out. I have only put on about 500 miles since with only 20 in bad conditions but I can say this it didn't get hot or seem hot like it did before, and strangly enough I now get snow build up in the skid were before I didn't get any snow build up in the skid, strange I know but now I don't steam like a locomotive from the susp area like I did before when I stop.

There was an aftermarket on on Ebay for $150 plus shipping, it was colored whoopee I'd rather pay about half since you don't see it anyway unless you roll it alot, lol.

Some of the aftermarket coolers are three times as large as the oem model (and they only fit on mountain sleds). This and the andodizing is the price difference.

Are you guys overheating the 121" shorties?
I took mine out for a short ride yesterday and the trails are basically bare ice.
My sliders were melting all over the place, but my sled didn't have any trouble with overheating.
I figured if it didn't overheat yesterday, it wont...

It took me about 20 miles on hard pack snow railgrade to overheat, then again about 25 miles later on forest roads with about an 8 inch base semi hard but a few sleds had gone through so it wasn't totally packed but I had the light on again. Not a stitch of snow on the skid and steam pooring out of the skid area, dealer said it was normal I said screw that order me the cooler and put it on for safety sake, I look at it as piece of mind for the future of the engine. I figured for the hours I would waste on hold with yami I would just buck up and pay, not saying this is right or anything. I do think yami knows there is a problem and should take care of it, I just haven't had any luck getting them to pay for squat. I am now having dealer do all my work and from here on out I am going to say you set it up you fix it, that is why I have the warranty, they can't blame it on me as all I do is gas and check the oil. My buddy laughs at us yami guys as we spend 8k on a sled and another 1k to make it ride and run right. He is right on this, as other sled makes can run right and ride good out of the box, well maybe not cats, lol.

Strange...
Even when my sled had 100% antifreeze in it the light never came on (although conditions weren't as bad).
Now that I've reduced it to 60/40 it should be even better.
I wonder if MY light is working???
How are your sliders? Are they melting (and smoking) like mine?

305 miles and ya they were pretty well shot, now with the simmons skis with the cooling fins I get alot of snow to the track and very minimal wear with the new hyfax.

Good luck with Yamaha paying for any extra coolers. My 03 RX1 mountain was probably 1 of the 1st ones to complain about over heating.
Since Yamaha said there was no problem, I bought ice scratchers from Mountain Performance. They knew there was going to be a problem, they had rear coolers for all of there long track kits. Even after Yamaha came out with the extra coolers for the mountain sled they kept saying there was no problems. I wonder why they enginered a cooler and sold them? My dealer told me the only way I could buy a cooler was for them to install it. WRONG. They also charged labor me for the up dated float bowles on the mountain sled. Quess what? I don't do bussiness with them any more. The cooler thing, float bowel problem, and a couple of other things that went wrong is why I'm thinking of a change, but DAMN, I love that 4 stroke.

Mine finally overheated in marginal snow. My wife and I were riding along the road. Her Viper overheated, I went to retrieve her sled and she rode mine and then my RX overheated. My solution, she was riding the sled too slow and not goosing the gas to help cool the engine and get some snow up in the exchanger.

If you ride slow it will get hot with little to no snow. But if you ride her fast and hard she will not get to hot!

I had a '92 Vmax 4. I don't think you could possibly overheat that thing. A radiator, front and rear exchangers, and a pair that run under the tunnel. What was the deal with that? A radiator would probably help with these sleds.
