2014 Viper
Hey guys, just bought my first Yamaha and learning the ropes here. 2014 SR Viper. 1800 miles on the sled

Warming up my sled last night to throw it in the trailer and it sounded like it dropped a cylinder, noticed it threw a P0261 code. Turned it off and restarted it a couple times and it seemed to be fine. Apparently it means the injector was failing? Anyone else have any experience with this?

Sled seems cool so far, been riding ski-doos my whole life and I don't know one other person that rides a Yamaha so I have no other reference than calling a dealer.

Thanks

Don

Someone else must have had this? Did I get the one lemon for my first yamacat? -20 here this weekend and would hate to be walking. Lol. Be an expensive weekend if I have to buy a new etec!

Try checking for loose electrical connection at the injector, or disconnect the battery for a minute and reconnect and check if it clears the code. It's worth a try but maybe someone with better expertise will chime in.

Not sure what is going on. 100 miles so far today and it hasn't coded once. Thanks.

Everyone is riding today which is why you haven't gotten any answers. I'm stuck at home so I can offer my thoughts. The code you got is for cylinder #1 and the service manual states "cylinder 1 injector circuit low". My understanding of this is that it wasn't getting the voltage necessary to properly operate the injector solenoid which opens and closes to allow the fuel thru. When the computer senses this, it goes into a protect mode to keep the cylinder from running lean and burning up which is why it ran like crap. Since this was a temporary problem and it's running fine now, I'd give it a 99% chance that it's just a dirty contact that is intermittently causing a high resistance. I'd suggest that you clean the fuel injector electrical connections with contact cleaner and then put some dialectic grease on there to keep out moisture. From what I've read this should solve it. I haven't worked on viper injectors before so I don't know how hard they are to get to. If you swing by an auto parts store you can get the cleaner and dialectric grease and do the work at the end of the day. Maybe a 20-30 minute job? Good luck!

I assumed the same thing. I looked a little last night and I'm assuming there was moisture or some other issue. One thing I've learned with my short time on a yamacat is nothing is easy to get to. Lol. A lot stuffed in a small place. Again, thanks fellas. Trails here in northern Mn are pounded but at least there's snow.
