I didn't like the silver grills on the hood. Painted them black. Still not sure on the large side grills. Might do them in black also.

Looks good Slush--I was planning on doing the same thing. I think the stock color looks too cheap. I'm also painting the side vents, and probably going to chrome the top of the ribs on them that run length-wise.

 We've been testing painting plastic for about a month. My RTX is getting red metalic grills w/ many coats of clear, the day it shows up. I don't know what Yamaha was thinking with those grey grills.

Greenmntpass. What kind of paint did you get to hold onto the plastic surface? I never had much luck painting plastic. studdog

Guess it's a personal thang. I really like the stock silver color.
I too like the silver gray ;)! That's pretty soft plastic guys, make sure you use a flexable paint or it will lift and look much worse :ORC

The import(car) guys use a product where you can paint plastic;ie door panels, dash, console to make it look like its anodized several colors red, green, blue, gold. You guys could probably find it at Carquest,Napa, etc I found it at Canadian tire in Canada.

Studog the guys are right. The most important thing we learned was proper surface prep. Make sure you clean the plastic well, even wipe down with paint thinner to get the oil off of it. Hit it with some fine steel wool to improve primer bond. From the automotive store use the proper primer!! When I go home for lunch I'll get the name. I was looking into Alsa corps chrome paint but got discouraged at $200.00 for a pint. We used a candy red metallic that with several coats of clear it really stands out. And its about $9.00 a can.

Studog the primer is: SEM Color Horizon #02023 Metallic Base Primer
base paint: SEM Color Horizon #03113 CandyApple Red
clear: SEM Color horizon #01023 Clear
For our application this is what we were told to use at the auto paint store.

I used black vinyl paint from the auto store. Cleaned it up with break cleaner and very fine sand paper, no primer. Did a test on the back side to make sure it stuck good.
