Anyone ever painted the skid rails? Not powder coated but painted with normal spray paint? Just wondering how well they hold up??
I would think after one ride half of the paint would be missing with spray paint.

I painted my suspension arms after they cracked, they're holding up great.
I know it's not the same thing, I would think if you sandblasted them, cleaned very well and used a good primer then a thin coat of paint it should last alright, definatly wont be like anodized or powder coat but I bet if you do it right you'll get 2 seasons out of it!

Thanks jusp, not 100% sure yet what I do... if I do anything on this rail thing...
!
painted rails
I painted the rail on another sled of mine and they held up very well. I put 800 or so miles on the sled a couple years ago and there was only a couple of small chips here and there out of the paint. But it still looks really good.

Re: painted rails
With proper preparation and if took time to do it right, I bet it'd hold up. Might not look oem, but probably only professionals would get that anyways.
If you're picky, send them out to Welteracer (Half baked) for powder coating or as another said, anodizing also looks really good. Anodizing would probably look the most oem.
As another invented, "just my $.02!"

painted rails
Ya i was just looking for a quick and cheap way to do it, and yes if you take the time and use the right chemicals to prep them before painting it will last. I was not looking to get a stock finish either.

What about 2 part epoxy paint...people uset it around here to paint their trailers...holds up real well although it might go on too thick.

where the scratchers ride on the rails when up - the powder coating has come off mine. I would suggest some type of rubber cap on the rail for that small section if you powder coat - color matched would blend. What started out as a small section has turned into a much larger section that has come off. I tried some color match auto scratch repair paint last year.... didnt last a weekend.

Thanks for posting the pics of your SRX. Nate and I were checking it out on the last TY ride. It looks great and sounds amazing. Nothing quite like the sound of a SRX with a good silenser. I've been looking at used SRX's ever since I saw your build. Nice Job!!
