I was in a local shop today, the owner is a former long time Yamaha dealer (now private repair shop). The owner's teenage son has an 07 FX with 1300 miles, last weekend it tossed a rod out the side of the motor. He claims that our local Yamaha shop has 3 phazers there now with the same issue. Supposedly the rod cap came off (as is know to happen to some 03 RX1's)

Has any one else seen this?? If it happens to me, will Yamaha take care of it even if the waranty is gone???

One more thig to worry about! :o|

Never mentioned is the cost of off warranty 4 stroke repair...........As for the rod cap, that sounds like a fluke. Is he sure it wasn't parts from the starter / reduction drive?

I will talk to dealer tomorrow and get to the bottom of this. If this was one sled, no big deal, if he realy has three of them with the same problem, I will be selling the phaze before it pops

watch youre clips that holds the air filter in place, they are known to rattle loose and end up in the motor, that's what happened to a friend of mine,i siliconed mine so they dont move

Please say it isnt so!I am so happy with mine now.Any chance oil pan can be removed with motor in sled?

Im pretty sure the motor is a dry sump, so I dont think there is an oilpan. Its got an oil tank that holds most of the oil and the oil pump pumps the oil from the oiltank to the engine then back to the oiltank.
Its not like a car or truck where you can just drop the oilpan and get a clear view of the crank.
Everyone just needs to relax and remember that you need to take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt. If this is a widespread issue, Yamaha will make things right.
Remember when the SRXs were snapping cranks? Yamaha issued an update and made things right.
If the Phazers do indeed have an issue with this, Yamaha will issue an update and make things right.
Im not trying to say that DaveRX1 is wrong, I honestly dont know one way or the other. However, if there is one thing Ive learned from my time spent on forums is that just because a handfull of people had a certain issue, that doesnt mean that each and every sled has that issue. Oftentimes, what starts out as a problem on 1 or 2 sleds gets blown way out of proportion and next thing you know, everyone is paranoid that every sled has that issue.

Thats because almost all the issues posted here have happened to mine.Except for the reduction gears.Nobody is panicking.Just dont have time for failure but do have time for PM'ing.Especially since our snow is melting big time right now.I just like being safer. There is a sump, pan, cover that is removable. If pan were removable from bottom of sled it would be easy to check torque of rod bolts or at least a few of them. Not worth it though unless two or three are heard of.

My dealer`does have two blown up Phazers, one has the`rod problem and I am not sure about the`other.

I will get details tomorrow

You know this could be as simple as someone not changing oil.Oil failure rod bearings and sometimes cams are first thing to go.

Three engine failures at my dealer. One was a supercharged Phazer reason unknown, rod did fail, most likely related to supercharger.

The other two have 600 miles and 1300 miles. Both sleds had recently been rolled over and the engine continued to run while the sled was upside down (low oil pressure switch should have shut it down but did not).

Both of these sleds were ridden for a coulple of weeks after the roll over and all seemed to be normal. Bothe sleds had the #1 cylinder rod cap fall off and totalled the motor.

Do not roll over the sled and keep the oil changed and we should be OK

I have heard that there was an issue in that exact situation (upside down and running) in the first year sleds...mostly occuring to the mountain sleds...due to the fact they are upside down more often. If it's a concern to you a tether cord would solve the problem...unless of course you are under the upside down sled....

Have not had one in with any motor problems to our dealership. I suppose we have sold close to 50 07' and 08's.
HMMMM, we've never seen this before.....Sounds familiar!

Anyhow, heard of 2 reduction failures, and 2 rolled and popped locally. Now if the engine shuts down when there's low oil pressure, how would that happen?
