By 2009, they pretty much ironed out most of the issues such as the skid suspension arms and shafts. The Phazer and Nytro are similar and the usual issues such as sloppy steering, a-arm bushings and ball joints should be checked. Engines are bulletproof if well taken care of and should not be a concern. Exhaust donuts might need replacing. Reverse engagement is still sometimes problematic and can be alleviated with updated belt and secondary clutch adjustment. A looser chain adjustment can also help. It is possible to tweak the front sub-frame, similar to the Nytro, but usually when it is severely abused and not a usual problem.

Is the subframe bending on phazer's anywhere near as prevailent as it is on Nytros?

Our project phazer is bashed and looks like is was used for rock crawling and another is tweaked at the upper shock mount. The shocks mounting point is now reinforced on the frame and is no longer a concern. They are nowhere near as problematic as the Nytro's but should be checked regardless in case of abuse.

Phazer front clip is stronger than Nytro .... A arms tend to get tweaked more so than the frame.

After bending 3 lower arms on the same side my subframe is definately tweaked a bit but nowhere near as bad as the Nytros as I still have some positive caster on that side. Most Nytros end up with no caster/negative when they get tweaked after the first hit. Some of mine is due to an ovaled out mounting hole but its all getting fixed this summer with a complete front clip rebuild/bushings.

Just got a 2007 phazer and I am honestly disappointed. I guess I did not research enough...but everything I have read that might need work, does. For instance...
busings for spindles, steering slop, bad ball joints, and starter loose bolts. Quite a bit of time and money to get it right, however, I'm sure it will be great once it's fixed right. Just make sure you check things over very well.
Cannot comment on how it rides because I got it at the end of the winter.
By the way - this forum is great...has all information you need and has helped me be able to do all the work myself.

My '07 hasn't had the steering bushings replaced at all in 6K miles, it needs them bad (over the summer).
Irish Redneck "HAD" a '10 and did the UP Bushman spindle/steering kit, says it is a huge improvement... no steering slop at all.
Have a feeling it will be worth the $$ to get a start on handling a 'lil better for next season.
They are fun to throw around and bop thru the woods, get it righted & enjoy!
