Remeber i am a true HP jumkie and jumper so keep that in mind while reading this. These are my thoughts and opinions on the sled so far!
UNDER POWERED
Ok, now that the main downfall is out of the way I will tell you the rest.
Suspension- Silky smooth, one of the smoothest riding sleds if not the most for a 144 i have ever ridden. However, on jumps way too soft and bottoms to easily. Front end is way to soft and rolls way to easily, however i have taken the sway bar out and cranked the shocks all the way up but did not help.
Motor- very quick and smooth. Thick middle range and bottom range, no top end what so ever. Saw 72mph on a straight stretch and wasnt pinned so maybe a little faster but not much. Sounds good to, but sound doesnt always mean hp. 30 miles and 3 gallons of gas were burned but keep in mind i was at full throttle most of the time just to get the thing to go up hills with about 2-3 feet of fresh. I know they say dont break in a sled hard but hey, it has 5 year warantee until the turbo gets here so if poops it might as well be while i have warrantee so i will ride hard. Trottle response was crisp and fuel injection is very nice.
Feel- The sled is very agile and easy to throw in the pow but like mentioned above the shocks give way to easily and wants to roll out instead of hold a line while carving. Fox floats will cure this. Handlebars are nice but too low for me being 6'8" so i was a little out of balance by leaning over but not bad at all. Fly bars and riser will fix this to. Sitting position is excellent, my knees are bent and easy to transition from sitting to standing. I try not to sit too much but the seat wasnt bad for when i was sitting, i like how narrow it is when standing.
Potential- I think this sled can and will be a great sled when set up for how i ride. When the turbo is on and the shocks and handlebars are fixed to my liking i think it will be a kick a$$ sled but until the i will suffer with a under powered ill handling sled that could compete with most 500's. I believe this sled will fit many peoples needs for a beginners sled or a wifes sled in the mountains stock. But on the other hand i think it can be made into a monster on the hills if put together right.

Wow, 6'8" no wonder you'll need risers. How much do you weigh?

Underpowered is exactly what I felt when taking a demo for a spin.

it will get better after the first 100-200 miles. it is still breaking in so later you will feel more power. The demo sleds were beat to hell and are nothing like the sleds that they are selling now. The shox are probably bottoming out because you are probably heavy being 6'8. I would put some flots on and you should be good to go.

It was a production model that I rode 2 weeks ago. Felt the same to me as the demo I rode at the end of last year.
I rode with a phazer mtn lite and he was having a lot of trouble makeing it up the hills I was bouncing over with my Vector Mtn.
I think the sled would be great in the trees but it def lacks the power needed to have fun in the hills

The ride will be taken care of, i have Floats on order for the front and Ohlins for the back.
As for the power, i dont think it will be a huge difference after break in is over, not enough to write home about if you know what i mean. However when the turbo arrives i think that will be a different story, this sled with the turbo will be a giant killer with proper setup. With being lite as it is i think it will easiely walk past vectors and compete wth a stock apex in the trees, the only thing that will stop it from being a super hill climber is the width of the track. It Floats well but a 16" vs 14" is easy to see who will be able to climb better.
I did ride with two FX's and they couldnt accellerate as fast or climb half as high on a hill as mine. Their track just wouldnt push them up a hill with 2 feet of snow. Top end they were about 8 mph faster. When racing off the start they couldnt catch up until about 50 miles an hour and then pass me but slowly.
Oh i weigh 230 with gear and backpack

Are you going to do anything with the attack angle?
looks pretty step.
Is it possible to do a drop and roll you think?
Should be a wicked sled when finished
(Isn't camoplast making a 14X151 now?)

HYFLR sweet write up and review... thanks. i feel pretty much the same way about the sled. except that it is enough power for me right now for backcountry snowboard access and boondocking. we've done a lot of tandem trail breaking with it and it has done pretty well. much better w/ solo rider. gonna for sure do the turbo once the warranty runs out in 3 years or so. i agree 100% with your suspension comments and had the same problems. can you post the fox float part numbers and rear suspension part numbers for the replacement shocks? i want to do this ASAP. i'm very very happy with my mtn lite. we even did a day with 4 of my friends and the only sled was my mtn lite. we tandem up and towed another, worked out well. got stuck once while tandem trail breaking in like 30" fresh above 12k. had to ride solo and pack in the trail before we could continue on.. .good times.. sick sled
and your right, you dont really sit down too much when riding the mtn lite. just too much fun to rip around
were you able to get the mtn lite setup for your altitude level? i read its like 5-8k stock from the factory. .do you think this effected your power output?

Would you consider the Phazer to be under powered on a groomed trail?

I think in trail form it'll be awesome in the tight and twisties but wfo on an open field the 80hp will leave you wanting a little more. I'm curious to see what clutching/ intake mod and new exhaust would do for performance. YZ 250F with some minor mods make a definite difference so I hope it's the same with the Phazer.

all the opinions sound about right for me as well, which is why I'll be adding and exhaust and nitrous. I hope to be out getting some miles on soon.

On trail performance- I thought it did fairly well. The sled was snappy and felt torquey for a 500. Midrange was very smooth and seemed to have plenty of pull however when on top end it loses its legs. This is my sled though 144"x2" and its geared wrong from the factory for my elevation. It could have a better top end when re-clutched and geared but i dont think it will make a huge difference, just a few mph.
The trail i was riding had 1"-2" of loose snow on top of a very hardpacked base, good for speed runs

i agree. but for mountain trail riding in trees and with steep switch backs the thing kills it. i found that consistent low torque spinning of the track in deep powder yelded the best results for trail breaking. if you gun it while breaking trail in certain situations it starts to dig with two people tandem riding.

i'm at 100 miles or so..
we were riding 10-12k in about 30" fresh on the trail.. slowly breaking off trail for some snowmoshreddin
i think you'll see an improvement when you get it geared properly. someone post those shock part #'s
haha
edit: i should note that i have not even had a chance to fully open up my sled so i can't comment on the top-end observations
