I have ridden skidoo for years now, i am getting off 800 renegade. My 11yr son thinks the phazer is the coolest sled going. I am looking to buy one for each of us. when looking what to look for? I'm 5'9 185 I should get 70mph? Speed not a real factor spending time riding with him is.

you should get at least 70 out of it,
Look for 2008 and up. and make sure all updates are done. 07 are ok, but you may need to do some updates.

As far as GT vs RTX/FX models it depends on your riding style and if you ride on groomed trails or off trail

I've seen 80-81 on the GPS. I weight ~230 lbs.

They are more difficult to ride than your renegade. I know power is not important as you stated but its basically half in a chassis that weighs 60+ lbs more. They are tippy and like to fall on their sides if you ride off-camber...especially the MTX. They require much more "body english" than a conventional sled. Its a weird sled to get used to, more like an ATV but tippy like a trike compared to a quad. Really fun once you get the hang of it but don't expect it to be anything like your BRP.

Just be careful with the kid riding it. Yes they are tippy.

There are also a few tricks to make them handle better the don't cost anything.

Having said that, it is the most fun I've ever had on a snowmobile

i'm 250 and i've seen 88 on the speedo with my 136 1.5

Ive seen over 80 on the dreamometer. Cant say as I have any interest in going 85 with it on anything other than a freshly groomed trail.

The sensation of riding this thing at 70 is nothing like any other sled I have ridden.

If you enjoy/have experience with higher HP atv's, you will enjoy riding it.
