Last week I completely tore apart my 07 FX Phazer to put in a left hand side frame casting. I had the engine out as well as the entire wiring harness. After I had everything put together and the wiring all routed and plugged back in, the starter will run but doesn't engage and turn the engine over. Also when I first tried to start the sled I seen smoke come out of yellow plastic piece that almost looked like a fuse by the oil tank. I then untapped the harness and seen that one of those little black wires was kinda melted that goes into the main harness. What did I do wrong? I am really confused on this one!

Read "fault code 88" post. Maybe your starter failed and it's causing other problems?

Are you sure you have all the battery cables hooked up correctly?

i have never had a starting issue with my phazer so this is just from information i read on here. apparently the starters are always engaged. you problem might be that the bolts came loose and "de-indexed" i think they call it. there is a fix that involves removing one bolt at a time and locktiting it while making sure a green line on the starter is lined with with a line on the engine. please correct me if i am wrong.

That yellow piece of plastic by the tank needs an updated part. There is a service bulletin S2009-008 that explains what needs to be done. Your dealer should cover the work free of charge.
