Phazer Tail Light Problem

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I've a tail light problem with my '09 Phazer GT that I hope you guys can help me find the answer. So far I can say the light and the fuse are fine because I've plug the light on my friend's Phazer and it works fine, however when it is on my unit the light does not work at all. I've tried my best tracing the wire and checked as much connector as I can but with no success. Any suggestions as to the next course of action I should take?

Why do you say your fuse is fine? Most often, the break in the fuse is not visible.

User a voltmeter to check for voltage at the socket and check the fuse with an ohm meter.

Check under the brake handle at the switch. Push the pin that holds the switch back in, I bet it is loose.

The switch might also be defective, dirty or corroded. Had that happen on the '09. Easy to take apart and clean the contacts. Add some dielectric grease to protect it.

Yup look at the switch. Same happened to mine long ago.

Update: well....I've tried everything and no luck. The fuses are fine and there is no power going to the light, I've traced the wires and checked all the connections they all seem to be original and no corrosion problem. I also checked the brake switch and mine is clean and new looking. I don't know what to do anymore.

Is power getting to the switch? When you checked the fuses, did you use a meter or test light on each side of those fuses? Just looking at them can be deceiving.

Grab a copy of the repair manual and check the wiring schematic and trace the entire wiring for the brake light. Maybe mice chewed it up?

edit: Could also be the load control relay that powers that circuit. If you're not getting power to neither side of the fuse for the brake light, suspect the relay. But then, nothing would work (i.e. headlight, reverse, etc.). Also check the ground connection with a meter. Check for power using an actual body ground.

I checked the fuses with a meter and they're all fine. There is no power getting to the switch. I also noticed when it is in reverse there is no beeping noise...maybe that hardware might be relayed somehow.

Load control relay would deal with the back up buzzer as well.

Just want to give you guys an update on the taillight problem with the Phazer. I took it to a local Yamaha authorized shop to have them fix the problem. After about two weeks I finally got a call from them and was told that there was discontinuity within the wiring hardness somewhere (*I already knew that before I brought it there) and the solution they offered was to replace the complete wiring harness ($750 parts) plus labour. So I suggested to the mech to identify the problem wires and rewire it instead of replacing the whole thing, he said they don't do that because if their wiring causes a fire then it becomes a liability for them. I was pissed at this point having to listen to the level of incompetent from this guy. I was thinking to myself you're a certified mechanic, do you just swap parts or are you even capable of fixing anything? Are you just lazy and don't to do a real mechanic's work or you just incompetent? I was not a happy camper after being billed for three hours ($300) of work the problem still persisted. I didn't want to spend another $1000 to fix a wiring problem so I decided to take the sled home. My nephew and I spent about two hours running new wires and now the taillight works again.
