Wife rides a Viper now that is hurting her back (or hurt her back from something else and this is aggravating it). She only uses about 60% of that sleds capability and considering getting her a Phazer FX. Probably an 07 as thats whats currently for sale around here. Found a couple with under a 1000 miles for close to 4k. It fits the budget and looks like a fun ride.
Concern is that its going to be too cold for her on long rides in cooler weather. Doesnt look like alot of wind protection there. Predominant flatlanders that ride in Minnesota and Wisconsin trails. Typically 100-200 mile days in a mature group. No disrespect intended by the coined phrase. If I get her this and its too cold (she does fine on her Viper), I will never hear the end of it.
Also..have a standard 8.5 x 10 enclosed trailer. Is this thing going to fit in it with another conventional sled next to it?

to be honest the pahze may not be the best for her.. narrow seat kind of tippy if the rider does not stand up alot. dont get me wrong mine handles the studder bumps great but you have to be going at a pretty good clip to stay on top of the bumps. and as far as the cold its not bad if you have a good jacket/pants

The "Tall" windshield looks comparable in height to a conventional sit down sled for coverage.
What is going to keep her warm is all the work she has to do to ride it. It's no cruiser.

The Phazer will work for your wife, but NOT as is...
#1- Rear Suspension. have both shocks revalved for her weight and likely set the springs quite soft. she will be ejected from the seat if you don’t. I am not kidding either!
#2- tighten limiter strap all the way AND put on good carbides or duallys.
#3- tall windshield combined with handguards is actually VERY warm riding.
#4- get the Yammi knee wind deflectors. they really help.
I have had women ride my sled and I can say that they complained about all of the above items. If you can get a smokin deal on an 08 then do it and spend a bit making comfortable and safe.
Before you get an 07, ensure a dealer runs the VIN to see what updates were done. There were quite a few. If they have been done you're good to go.
Not sure about your trailer... I use a 5x10 enclosed, and my sjis rub the 48" door opening. That being said the skis can be moved by re-arranging the spacers to make it a wider stance (less tippy).
Yamaha should have a "Comfort" package like this. Good luck man,
Oh and YES, oh my God YES, THE PHAZER IS FUN TO RIDE!!!

My buddy and I both have Curve XS skis on our sleds and they fit fine on an 8 1/2' trailer.
Having good gear is keeping me warm on mine

i have no need for "a lady package" i ride with no windshield,i wear a moto cross style helmet with goggles. i did have my shocks revalved to make them stiffer, was sick of bottoming out when i whale the woops sections or hit'n some jumps... i would recomend the phazer to any woman, its not a big heavy sled, easy to handle, enough power to have plenty of fun...

Well..wish me luck. Put a deposit down on an 07 fx I pick up on Saturday. Low miles, bone stock with exception of a tall windshield and knee deflectors. Nice guy that never rode it much. Hes the original owner. Asked that he insure all the updates were done. Says the fan was done for sure but doesnt recall any others.

I just rode my phazer for the first time and yes, this is a totally different experience than the regular sit down style sled. I have ridden dirt bikes most of my life so this phazer fits in perfect. I too bought this sled for my wife and am thinking it will take her quite some time to get used to it. Has a lot of low end for a 500. As for the cold, I was surprised that it wasn't too bad. I have the tall windshield( this is a must) and I have the Gt so it has the deflectors on the side which help. My hand warmers actually work pretty good also surprisingly. Yes, a yamaha with decent hand warmers. I rode around the lake a few times hitting 75 for about 1/2 hour and was still warm.

As far as for the wife to ride, My wife likes my Phazer, she said it rides like a 4-wheeler and she likes that. TOO bad she rides it like a 4-wheeler though as that means she likes to putt around a 15-30mph so I can't take her out on the trails for fear of getting passed by a group of grandpas out on a vintage trail ride! My wife hated her Stinky, "way too fast", hard to steer Vmax 700 deluxe we use to have for her.

my girlfriend enjoys her phazer.. i think its a good sled for women riders as for the smaller apperance.. and it being quite nimble.. i dont think it looks as intimidating as the larger older sleds.. the sled does take a bit of body english to get it to rail the corners but thats pretty easy to get the hang of.. in central NY we are mostly riding in temps above 10F.. i would recomend good riding gear that is wind proof..she likes the narower seat and the ease of popping up to the standing position when the bumps come... we have done some pretty good rides in the past 130plus miles in a day and she is comfortable. if your in the CNY area, lets hook up for a ride.. i am sure she would like to ride with some other women.. plus I am sick of getting smoked by her..

So are you (or in this case your wife) going to test ride before buying??
Is a ditch banger right for someone with a bad back?
No disrespect, but I don't understand why people will give up 4-5,000 of their hard earned money on something based on other people's opinions. Sure other views are good and helpful but your wife is the one who will love it or hate it; so why take the chance? Ride it first.
And, for people to make a blanket statement that a particular sled is good for women is somewhat.............
That idea is flawed because it assumes all women have the same riding style, ability, weight, height, etc., etc...
boondoggle

I generally don't consider the phazer to be a great sled for women and children because it is so easy to tip and requires a lot of work to ride. But I have an mtx. The short tracks may be a little different.
But for a bad back I think it may actually work. Most people with bad backs experience pain when sitting, especially with bumps going on. With the phazer I almost never sit down, even going straight on a flat groomer. It just feels natural and comfortable to stand up on it. If she has the high windshield and some kind of handlebar muff to compensate for the bunk handwarmers, she may be good.

I bet there are just as many people out there who just cruise with the Phazer as there are those of us that look for air and wish for more speed. For those people sled also makes sense since it rides nice,4st,electric start, easy on knees, lightwieght and really good on gas when ridden easy and is cheap. So you have easy riders and hard riders that the sled works great for.In between I think is where people have trouble handling it.I have ridden with women that have no problem keeping up with the boys and make some look bad also.Sure is a eye opener but is truth.

i have 3 girls and they all rode everything i have,
back when i had my zr8 my oldest which is 23 now
had her own 400 indy and we went to the hill, so i know my kids have throttle control they learned on a jr 50 as soon as they could ride a bike.
well my brat wanted to ride my sled and we were at the reservoir so i said yea honey be careful.
well what happened next was one of the proudest and scariest moments in my life,
she was out riding in her own space and came to a stop at the end of the reservoir,
so what happens is the guys who want to race your sled pretty much swarm to ya and line up, atleast 10 of them in her case, she was far enough away that i couldn't tell her no. it happens quick.
the next thing ya know i see my kid with the skis up about 2 feet, that sled was an animal,
my other kid was freaking out and brat was in the lead and leaving the others in her dust,
thank god she didn't go the whole way, she pulls up to me and she takes her helmet off like it was no big deal and she was smiling from ear to ear,
and all she says was dad did you see me i kicked theyre butt, all proud of it.
as were driving home i was talking to her and asked if she was scared,
no dad it happened fast, this one guy pulled up to me and asked if i wanted to race him and all i did was nod to him, then everyone else came and lined up and off we went,
then she goes onto say that sled is so fast i was in the lead right from the start, the guys seen they wer racing a little girl and theyre friends were teasing them,
i understand it's all my fault because they only seen what i do and i treated them like boys.
i guess i was sexual biased thinking that they would behave like girls, but in all actuality what i did was make 3 very pretty girls that look like women and ride like men,
and to all the guys that come across my brood i am sorry for doing that, because there is no way in hell they are sitting home and i know for a fact, they aren't riding bitch either,
so i hope you guys have a good income so you can get two sleds, because if ya don't the sled you do have will always be gone with her riding it,
sure you can say she's staying home if i can't afford 2, you can ask any married guy on here, you are naive,
i don't know how they do it but, well i have a couple ideas lol, but theyre the ones that get what they want, if they want it bad enough and you won't even realize it till it's too late.
