Phazer Warm Up

I am a real newbie here, so please excuse my ignorance. I have a 07 phazer mountain sled. The mechanic I used told me I always need to let it warm up until the rpm's drop down to idel 1700-1900. Its typically really cold where I ride and sometimes this can close to 10 minutes. Seems like a long time to let it just sit there and warm up. Is this something I really need to do?

Yes. I would warm it up thourouly if it's your 1st start up of the day. No way would I wait for light to shut of and blast the throttle. Let that heat soak into everything and get your fluids to circulate to a nice even temp. Remember 4000rpm before your clutches even engage, never mind the 8-11000 rpm to get YA going. Dangerous imho to not warm up. Playing with fire

Warm up thoroughly. After light goes out run throttle up and down slightly until rpm's come down to normal idle. Can't remember exactly what (check manual or wait for someone else) it is but wait especially if left outdoors.

Agreed with above posts. I myself wait til the light goes out and ride easy for a few miles on the first start up of the day.

I usually take a solid 10 mins warming up even pulling out of the mancave. Idles in there until light goes out then I move it outside.
The other day it was so cold out my rpms were at 17ish after stopping with still running and in a field playing in the drifts being -30ish and windy she was even idling up after only sitting for 20-30 seconds. Idled up to 19ish to maintain temp I guess. First time ever I saw that happen. Winds were very high tho.

Same as above - warm it up good before blasting off on it. I usually start it up and then get suited up to ride which takes a good 10-12 mins. Then go play...

Thanks for all the advice! Now we just need some snow to go rip around in!!!

Well, it's a 4-stroke, so not like you're typically going to see a 4-corner seize like you can with a 2-stroke being not sufficiently warmed up. The colder it is, the longer I let it idle. I usually take it easy for the first couple of miles; get the chilled coolant circulated through the heads and somewhat stabilized in temp; get the belt and chaincase a little warm before really giving it.

I used to have to let her REALLY idle down to back off the trailer before putting the trailer glides on; now she just slides right off with a little tug on the bumper and I don't even have to start it up or engage reverse to unload it off the tilt trailer.

The red warm up light never comes on with my brother’s Phazer even when starting in very cold temps. Is this something he should be concerned about? Maybe leading to a bigger problem like faulty ECU?

as long as it has full coolant and oil, i would not worry too much as long as he gives it sufficent time to warm up. you could use your bare finger on the rad on the right side and it is sufficently warmed up as soon as you feel heat on your finger tip as that means the thermostat will have opened to start circulating coolant.
