Finally got my sled off the Glacier today ... Chopper Pilot gave me a break at $1,257.
Got to drive 350 miles to Dealer tomorrow.
Got some good pics of damage, but don't know how to post them? Can anyone post them for me? If so, what size should I make'em?

Towing insurance in your case would be helpful. Sorry for your sled and your rescue bill.
WOW, that is unreal. How did you find the sled? GPS? I assume so. Your lucky you didnt get pounded with snow, you would have never seen it. Not that its any consilation, but im sure Yamaha will warranty the damage, sure would be nice to pick up the chopper bill as well. Thanks for the pics...BBY

Thanks for posting the pics Convert.
BBY, had a GPS at the time but close mountain peaks prevented us from getting a fix. Found it with "Dead reckoning"...and a lot of luck.
Will hopefully find out more this week on exact damage and cause. Then...what will be covered, and what won't. Hopefully Yamaha will make good for it. Got a feeling I'll be eating the chopper bill.
Been with Yamaha for 25 yrs... 14 sleds...first time I ever had a problem that I felt was a factory deffect. (Most of my problems were self-induced! )
Will keep ya'll posted..

What broke that caused all that damage?

Looks like its the jackshaft that jacked you rather than the bearing. Even if the bearing seizes, the jackshaft shouldn't break like that. That is *definitely* a manufacturing defect - must have been a contamination in the metal - technician #127 at it again dumping used rubbers into the vat!

Well I guess jerry rigging it wouldnt have gotten you home. Holy crap that is bad. I cant believe you found your sled either. Do they lose alot of sleds up there that way? Left behind and couldnt find them again?

Hmm.. according to damage5.jpg, you may need a new motor. It *could* have been fixed on the hill, but would have been a REAL mess - both sides off, brake off, split chaincase, BIG frikkin socket to undo jackshaft NUT, remove chain, pull shaft, put all back together, new both clutches... I would think that it would be drivable with the engine damage, but it definitely needs work in the worst way. If I were Yamaha, I would consider that machine for complete replacement. It can never be fixed right with anything less.
