Hey guys, i put a set of 07 pilot skis on my 06 GT last night, and either i did something wrong, or these things don't work like for me. At slow to medium speeds on a super hardpack road, i had alot of darting, but it wasn't like the darting i had with my yamaha skis. It is this wierd feeling side to side movement, almost like a loose front wheel on a motorcylce or something.
I set the toe in to as close to neutral as i could, and i have both the bushings turned backwards, with a thin washer inbetween. Am i missing something here, or is that just how they are?
I was thinking to try taking some preload out of the front shocks next and see if some more ski pressure helps.

should you not toe out your ski's about 1/2 to 3/4 of a inch ??
just a thought

When i first installed them, they were toed out quite a bit, it seemed to be worse that way.

My pilots did not eliminate the darting for me,.. but it did greatly reduce it..
toe should be at 0 or toed out 1/4 total
There is no cure for darting... (well there is, but that would require killing all the other snowmobiliers)..LOL

I just bolted the pilots on with 6" in Woody's in the center and 4" in the middle. She handles great with almost no darting!

The skis are supposed to have the extra cabide on the OUTSIDE of the skis.. not the inside..

Nope.
Center carbide is for steering, outside is for stabilizing. Run close to what you normally would in the center.

1 turned backwards does it, maybe too mush play with the gap created by turning both backwards.

There is two carbides on each ski.. YOu want the longer of the two carbides in the middle and the shorter of the two on the OUTSIDES.. (unless you have the skis on the wrong sides of the sled!

I would lift the front of the sled and see if the ski fronts are pointing way higher then the back. If they are then you should trim a little off the back of the rubber stoppers. The problem is that the ski's have too much pressure tawards the back of the spindle. Lots of guys shim their ski's to eliminate darting but if you over shim them you end up with a hard steering sled that will handle funny because of to much rear pressure. What you want is the front of your ski's to be slighty higher then the rear. Most ski's from the factory will lay level because the manufacturers feel that this is very nuetral and will likely have few ill effects in handling. Shimming the rear of the Ski will help against darting but too much will also have ill handling. I would try this before any other changes and double check your alighnment.
