PLEASE READ - WARNING

You might have left the product on to long softening the paint, and then when you used a plastic scraper or your finger nail it might have caused that scratch?Anyway's bummer man!You can try a product called"mack tack"motocross guy's use it on there dirt bikes comes in various colours(including Black)

Hey Vice sorry to hear this but it has happened to many. I was just wondering if you had thought about using the tank protector that guys put on there motorcycle tanks. It would probably cover it up and protect it from any other type of abrasions.

Woah!! Thats deep. I think if that happened to my brand new big$$ sled I would take the part into a good body shop and have them refill and paint it up to look like new. Citroll by Shafer took the goo right off my Attak.

How about a sticker that says 2 nuts required to operate. LOL Maxdlx

That was funny, but he's mad right now. Not sure if that helped. :(

Actually - thats THE FIRST time I've laughed today!

Thanks guys

Take some paper and make a template of the shape in front of the seat just below the gas filler and take it over to a place that makes Sticers/decals and have them make a black or carbon fiber look-sticker to cover up the scratch..

This way it would also act as a anti scratch protector

Thats a good idea - I may very well do that. If it was done right - it might look kind of trick.

I'll also see if I can get a price on a replacement panel - but I bet I would need lube with that ! :)

color-rite.com doesn't have any of the 2006 paints listed yet. For those of you who know about paint/body work - would I need to supply the factory paint or could a body shop fix this by themselves???

man that sucks....lets have a moment of silence for the first Apex with damage. :o|
On a serious note, I think I would just clean it up good with a toothbrush to rid of any wax buildup and use an automotive touch up paint (black non metallic). Really have nothing to lose to not try and might look acceptable if you take your time doing it. It will always bug you because you know its there, but I’m sure 99% of the others will not notice a small blemish of touch up paint.

first off, what's wrong with leaving the sticker there?and if you must remove,wd-40 on a rag,let it sit for a bit then wipe off....

I'm not trying to insult anyone's intellegence but goof-off has a warning sticker that says it will harm certain painted surfaces and to try it in an inconspicuous area first. I had some marks on the dash of my truck I wanted to get out and it took the finish off...luckily I did it on the back side of my fuse panel to make sure ;)!

Sorry man...that would piss me off too :o|

Hair-dryer took my stickers right off...any residue left over came off nice with a small amount of buffing solution that I immediately clean with soap and water. Works everytime

Sorry to hear that vic,we had some stickers this summer that had sun baked on to my plastic deck railing plates, and i tried everything including gas, nothing worked, than my wife said wd-40 someone told her worked good,i laughed and tried it,to my surprise it worked.... Good luck vice and its still a sweet looking ride.. ;)!

I'm with slush on this, that the reason youi took the stickers off was to have a clean non stickered look. No! I think it would be cheaper than a new cover.

You're right Sasquatch - I do prefer the clean look. I'll inquire at the dealer tomorrow about the cost of a replacement panel and then compare that to a repainting. I'll let you guys know how it works out and what this brain-fart is gonna cost me. :D

OUCH, sorry to see that gouge. I would get a plastic automotive filler, fill it in first. Wet sand it. See if you can get a hold of a can of paint (for plastic) at your dealer. If you dont feel comfortable doing this, I dont think a body shop would charge that much. GOOD LUCK

That sucks big time! So does discovering that your tank bag wrecked the finish too :o|

If you don't know anything about finish repair and painting, then take it to a pro. That is, if you want it to look decent and match the rest of the sled too.

IMO: Yamahas are just too nice to cover with warning labels and racer decals.

that thing would bug the hell out of me, 1 crazy sledder just posted a pic with a tank bag on that would make that that scratch out of site, and then maybe out of mind..
