Glue a good sized magnet to the chain case cover on the outside. It will hold the filings against the cover,on the inside, where the magnet is mounted.

Ok...i figured id post this LINK,which another member(favarcat)found.....

This is a site that sells PLUG BOLTS that have magnets...I think this will be the best route here...we just need someone to figure out the exact size of the drain plug.....check this link.

I haven't looked at the dipstick on my 2007 Apex, but I was under the impression that the end of the dipstick was magnetic. I know it is on my son's Viper, and the Apex service manual say it is too.

I had one of them magnets come off on my 2000 sxr . Grind that sucker up and try and get it cleaned out . Good thing it was still on warrentie .

Apex and Attak do not have magnets on dipstick.
I haven't actually checked mine yet, but here's a snap of the RX service manual under chaincase maintenance:

Good idea. I'll have to remember to measure the bolt when I take it out next time. I changed the oil last week so it will be a while.

Hey REX....

I was hoping someone like you would check,LOL....i know you know your stuff and wont have us ordering wrong part..lol

maybe Ill do mine(even though i dont need to) and take the exisiting bolt to my local supply shop and have him tell me exactly what the size is...i think the magnet idea is awesome and we really can all benefit from it...maybe even buying a whole whack of them for us members to have cheaply....

The drain bolt is pretty close to the back of the gear and chain the drain bolt with A magnet would have to be flush with the chaincase I believe. Gluing A magnet to the outside of the chaincase cover is prolly the best idea.

The drain plug in the chain case is M8 x 15 mm long. I looked at the link Rockerdan posted and there was no plugs under the size M12. M is metric threds, 8 is the diameter of the plug. so the M12 is 4 mm to large in diameter.
