Candy Apply with 3K miles, not a scratch on it. What should I be asking for it? Stock skis are new as I am keeping the Simmons.

No modifications

RippinV,

How are your lower w-arm bushings, RA cable, and ski attachment holes (to the spindle), mono-spring, and track surviving?

I have 3k miles on my 05 also and all of the above are in need of a little attention (track will survive, but there are about 3 lug tips (top 1/4") missing).

I was wondering the same thing about how much it's worth. With the exception of the above (hopefully warranty) mine is also mint.

Ah - just re-read your post. You weren't running stock skis - skip that Q...

Thanks

if your lucky 8000.00 to 8500.00. the problem is the mileage unless you sell it to a yamaha guy. depends if you trade it in on say 06 rx1 / appex / attak whatever it is i,m guessing 4500.00 + taxes. by the way my cable is stretched and boot is shot. my sled is going in to the dealer next week for a new cable and some prototype protecter for the cable. i,ll post the info when i see what they have done . my sled 1500 miles. canadian dollars

Not to sound wishy washy, but it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Let me explain: if you can buy a new RX for 8200 + setup & taxes, would anybody pay $8,000? Not likely. $7000, maybe. Most guys that can spend $7,000 can jump up to a brand new one.

The human mind generaly looks at the first digit in a price, 8 = no, 7 = maybe, 6 = deal. Even if you sell for 6,900 it's far more attractive than 7 anything. In my opinion (take it for what it's worth to you) $7,500 is high dollar on that sled & be happy when you get it.

Were all in the same position here. Sledding is expensive!

I do not see any play or damage on the W arm bushings or on the RA cable/boot. My spring on the rear mono seems fine with no noticable wear. The track is fine, but I need to adjust it tighter. I really only rode on good snow cover and very groomed trailes. Some studder bumps and ice but no bare fields or mogul mashing and no off trail rides.

Do you thing that $7000 US is way out of the question?

I'll bet the reason your track is loose is the w-arm bushings are toast. According to a Yamaha mechanic at one of the recent 05 seminars they were told that all 05 mono-shock suspensions will need the updated bushings installed in the 2000-3000 km range (that's 1250-1875 miles).

It's not really a big deal, just the track gets loose and the weight transfer reduces a little. I expect the bushings are fairly cheap. They are very easy to change when the skid is out (and you or whoever buys it needs to take it out before next season to grease it anyway).

Up in Canada I'm sure you could get in the $7k US range retail (private sale), but in the US that might be a little steep.

I mentioned to my dealer (when they asked what I would want) about $8700 Cdn and they didn't scream or say it was unreasonable. New 05's are selling for about $13,000 + tax (to my knowledge there are none available in Canada - sold out).

We'll see what happens over the next few weeks...

Yes because at that price you are up against the new ones with all the dealer programs and low interest.Selling a sled after the first year or even two means you will take a BIG hit. Just ask the 03/04 guys who are ending up giving theirs away, not as bad but you will be surprised at the hit.

Thanks for all the input guys! I think I would be happy with $7K for the sled.

We shall see what happens. Another new baby on the way puts a chink in my planned snowmobiling for next season. Looks like I have to take the year off.

Why are you guys getting rid of your RX-1's so soon? Are you unhappy withthe sleds or are you trading up to 06 models?

I don't think the hit is as big as it seems.

Let's say I paid 12,500 (Cdn) for mine - or $14,375 with tax. With zero payments and zero interest for the first year, this really means I paid around 13,650 (using 5% as the cost of borrowing).

If I get $8700 at the dealer this will give me $10,000 off the bottom line price of a new sled (we pay 15% tax here). Assuming the new one costs the same, it would cost me $3,650 after tax for a brand new sled (plus the cost of borrowing - but I have to pay that next year anyway one way or another).

By the end of the season (unless it melts away) I will have 10,000 kms on my 05. If I was to keep it and ride it this much each year, it would have 30,000 kms on it in 3 years and be pretty much worn out.

I'm not sure which way I'll go yet, but at least for me the new sled option doesn't seem that bad.

What I can't believe is I didn't buy a new Yamaha sooner. I spent $2500 in parts per year on my 1997 Storm, lost half of each season due to blown motors, chaincases, clutches, etc., and spent over $2500 in gas and oil per year. This year I'll spend a little more in total (including saddlebags, etc.), but not much and I got to ride one of the best sleds around . Also (so far) I haven't missed a single minute of sledding time with my sled broken.

Another thing to add to the equation is I will need some maintenance on the 05 next year and unless I pay $1000+ to extend the warranty it will be coming out of my pocket. Even with the warranty, I expect I'll need a new track, new skis, and typical things like belts, etc by the time it hits 20,000 kms. There's $1000 in non-warrantied parts right there.

On top of all this I didn't even consider the Yamabucks that you get with a new sled.

Looks like I've convinced myself....
