Power Commander Chip

Is this the product you are talking about?
http://www.powercommander.com/

Looked the site over pretty good and did not see anything on the Apex.
I know that srxspec (Allen of Ulmer Racing) has been working on a programmable interface computer for his Apex he has had for about 3 months. So far he says around $300 or so, and with Allen you know he has put in countless hours dialing it in to perfection specifically for the Apex. Not saying the power commander is bad in anyway, I just know that Allens is going to be great right out of the box and he will work with me should I have any problems :D

From what allen has said there is no chip in the apex..

He has said he is making close to 90hp at the track with his apex.. Im not sure if he is using the tuned setup yet or not..

Allen really hasnt let on too much about his total setup as he is still working to perfect it...

he did say that the stock clutching is very well tuned compared to the stock RX-1 clutching.. (apex getting much more HP to the ground)

I will have to try and find the post where he talked about it.. IF HE DOENST beat me.. LOL

How close is Allen to having this done?

Any #'s yet?

Just knowing allen he will want it to be perfect, just a guess I'd say Nov to very early december.

Rotax,
Intake clutching and computer are all I know about so far, he'll have a MPI based supercharger as well I'm sure. He is a bit close lipped at this time and you cant blame him.
He works damn hard, and he would like to keep his edge on some of his competitors that may sell competitive products.
I have an interest in his computer, but I dont need it until december.
He did say that you cant change a chip or reflash the existing computer.
Has to be an additional interfaced computer add on. On cars today, typically what they do is widen the fuel pulses. I think his will be similar to that

I'm not really interested in the computer work, than, I am his clutching work. I'v had enough two strokes blow up on me from messing with them. I think I will stick with the basics of clutching and gearing. I am interested in hearing what he has, at his convience.

This one is very safe as it fattens the fuel pulses and does not change timing. He said to advance timing you have to use an offset key like hauck sells.
Ouch! on the 2 stroke failures. Yeah leaner is faster but that also burns down the 2 strokes

I had a nice conversation with a guy from Yamaha that spent some time on a Attak last year & he said all the Apexs will be very hard to find much of anything in the clutching!!! He said Yamaha spent more time on clutching these sleds than ever before!!!

I hope he's right!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry guys for not answering sooner, but I've been away until today trying to get ready for the Hay Days grass drags. I'll try to answer all the questions in this post all at one time because I'm not sure if I'll be back on here again until next week.

Anyone have news on chip power commander? Price ? HP gain ?

I have worked with the Power Commander made for the R1 bike on the Apex and it worked perfectly fine, the only hinderance is the fact that the Apex has a 12-prong connector and the R1 has a 16-prong connector. This isn't satisfactory in my book as it is great to be able to just plug it directly in and not splice any wires whatsoever. At this time Power Commander has no intention of offering anything for the Apex.

Thanks for the plug Tork. I have worked with several different controllers this summer and also have another one to work with real soon that will offer more features and more user interface out in the field. It is looking like the beginning of October before I can dedicate any real time again to this project for the time being.

Nothing set in stone and no #'s released until I can do dyno work on an independent dyno and on a production model to verify that all info gathered will be the same with a production model.

The stock Apex makes roughly 80 hp to the track where as the stock RX-1 made around 73 hp to the track. That's a nice gain in itself over the RX-1 as a well setup ECP filtered RX-1 makes just a little over 80 hp and runs with almost any sled out there!

We will offer three clutch kits for those of you who choose to keep your engine configuration stock. Stage 1 is just a simple helix upgrade and picks the HP up to 82.5. Stage 2 is a new primary spring, weights, and secondary spring which will pick up to 84 hp total. The Stage 3 kit will include a primary spring, weights, secondary spring, and helix and will pick up to 86 HP at the track.

Also we will offer a fuel controller with spark plugs for use with the stock air box that will show a nice gain. This kit will come with clutching that will include all the same pieces as in the Stage 3 kit, just a different calibration for the added HP.

The next step will be an intake kit with the fuel controller and spark plugs. This again will come with clutching that includes all the same pieces as the Stage 3 kit, but with a different calibration once again.

The final step for those looking for just a little bit more yet will be an exhaust sysetm that will go with the intake kit, fuel controller, and spark plugs as well as clutching. This will provide a nice weight loss and an impressive gain as well.

As soon as we start getting some frost on the fields or a damp moist day where we can run in a constant condition we will go over to our 1 mile long air strip and setup the timers and get some times. Look for most of this stuff to be available in November after some good quality test time.

There will be nice gains available to those who want to clutch or go beyond that for this winter. Yamaha can't give the optimum clutching to the general customer. Yamaha's clutching will work well in a variety of conditions, for a variety of riding styles, and for a variety of rider weights. Here at Ulmer Racing we can custom tailor your setup right to your riding style and riding weight, that's 2 things that Yamaha can't do.

;)!

I probably won't be able to check up on this again until next week, if anyone has any questions feel free to PM or email me.

:4STroke: :rocks:

Edit: For anyone looking for clutch info. I put up a post a while back underhttp://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=15298&highlight.

Thanks allen for taking the time knowing how busy you are right now.
Very impressive, guess I'll have to save up for your November announcements :D
