Power steering?

Toyota has been using electric power steering for years as have other companies. I don't se it being problematic, just too dang much money IMO in the new Apex.

I do not think they are using electric-assisted steering 'just because they can.' They have finally hung more aggressive skis on the thing and they need the power assist to help the general public turn without bitching about a 'heavy feeling.' Also much of the price increase can be traced back to the next generation Float shocks all around which are NOT cheap. If you have an earlier model Apex and want to go the Float route it will probably cost you around $2500 US to convert. As a current Apex owner I would have rather seen 20 more horses. They are big top heavy pigs that will never be made to turn that well so we could just as well have more snort.

My Case 580 has hydraulic steering, got to add fluid about every 5 hours or you lose steering.

That's why you buy a John Deere and not a Case ;)!

Just kiddin' man! I don' own a tractor myself so don't really know!!

The car industries up in northern part of Sweden is testing fly by wire steering on cars.

But I dont see that big difference in a snowmobile except adding weight. The complexity of steering in a snowmobile is not that big or heavy.

A hydralic pump, oil tank and so on... yes... heavy.

BMW has brake by wire and steer by wires for years. But no goverment will approve it for sale at this time

tested an 11 Apex SE with power steering last friday at Yamaha Demo ride - probably my least favorite sled on the day. Like most things, the 1st generation units will likely improve over time.

Not the "feel" I'm looking for.

My wife didn't like the feel either.

But, we will be joining the 4-strokes world by next winter.......just need some spare $$$$

I tested it Friday as well in Old Forge. I really was impressed with it. Definitely had a lighter feel. I am sure I would have fell in love with it by the end of the weekend as we came close to 400 miles for the trip. This was my first time on an Apex and assumed that I was really going to love the extra 30 hp as compared to my vector but I wasn't impressed. They weren't letting us out on the lake where I'm sure it would shine but I did get quite a few full throttle accelerations. I just didn't see that much of a difference between the two except that the Apex motor is so smoooooth. All sleds, includind mine, are unstudded. My perfect sled? My Vector LTX with power steering.
