Prepping Ski 's for the Season???

Hello All,
I know this might sound like an odd questions, but I just blought some "New to me" Slydog Slis for my Vector.
The have 1 season of use on them, and they are pretty scratched up.
( I think the wear on the skis is normal - ski savers need to be replaced, and the surfaces are pretty skuffed up, but not too bad considering they have about 3000 mile son them )

Anyway, the owner of these skis told me that each season he sands down the running section ( not the keel ) of the ski to take out any scratches, scuffs, gouges etc...
( He hadn't done it to these skis but suggested I do...

Is this nessecary?
In all my years of sledding I had never heard of this, and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a trick or something?

Do any of you do this?
If so, what do you use?

I let the elements sand mine.

I wouldn't do it to a set of Slydogs.
These skis are thin enough.
Hold these skis up in the light and you can see light pass through them, especially nearest the keel.

Can you post a picture to show the wear on your skis? I'm also wondering what type of ski savers are on those. I have quite a few miles on mine and they are still in pretty good shape.
