Just replaced primary sheaves, pretty good groove wore into old ones. Any one else having any problems with this. Could this be caused by the stock yami belt? What other good belts are there?

Has any one tried the goodyear belts ?

mine is got a nice warn in it right down near the shaft, its certainly there, my sled only has 2500 miles should it be wearing so fast? I know the yammie belt is hard but holy, I'd rather buy new belts than be putting a new clutch on. My nytro likes to do like 12mph and faster its very annoying to feather it so much to go slower is this the cause the wear in the primary sheaves?

I switched to the Ultimax 3 because I thought the 8DN was the reason my sheaves were grooving but I have blown 2 of them now and yet to shredd an 8DN and I notice my new sheaves are wearing anyhow. Oh well, I went back to the Yamaha belt because I got tired of picking belt fuz out from the chassis holes and Im afraid eventually I'll bend the crank blowing belts.

I wonder if it's from the triples vibration.
Since there is no gear reduction, etc...

How are you guys finding the grooves?
Are they small and you see/feel them or more worn out surface that you can only see with a straight edge laid on the sheave?

If your sheaves are already grooved and you are putting on this belt and that they are going to wear pre-maturely no matter what. The stock clutching in the nytro does not grab the belt hard enough on low speeds or slow take offs causing the grooves. The only way I have been able to avoid this is with the D n F's with about four washers as well as 14.5 rollers.

Yep, mine also, grooved down at the bottom.
Didn't expect to such big bumps in there.
All Nytros must be like this after 3500k or so.

primary grooves

Mine were worn enough that Yamaha replaced the entire clutch and also the weights ay 4960 miles.Had the warrant from snowchecking it in 09 for 4 years.Covered it with no problems.Switched to the XS805 belt to try for this season.

Bottom line is the sheaves are a wear item. Eventually you will have to replace them. One of the main reasons we all buy Yamahas is because we put on miles. If you were riding a 2 stroke you wouldn't worry about the sheaves because the motor would have blown up by now. Or you would have sold or traded to a new sled because the miles were getting up there. Yes the Yami belts are hard, but they last. Take your pick, worn sheaves or blown belt crossing a lake at WOT! I'm guessing the latter could cause some expensive problems that would make replacing clutch components seem like a good deal.

I have blown thre factory belts. Vented the clutch for more air this season so we'll see.

Clutch looks good at 3800km :drink:

I bought my sled used from a buddy, it had an Ultimax belt on it and one as a spare....I'm pretty sure they were put on right away..sled only had 2300 miles when I bought it....I have grooves in mine.
