In general, I have got the impression a lot of people don't like the Pro-Active suspension That came in 07 and later APEX RTX's and RS Nytro's. I pulled my skid on my 07 RTX when it was new in exchange for a ZX-2 x 144" After being disappointed year after year, I decided to make my own Crossover sled. (They released the XTX two months after I finished my conversion!) I never really rode my RTX with the stock suspension, but did ride a RS Nytro for a season. While I liked the suspension, I get the general impression most people on this site don't.
What are the major downfalls of the Pro Active CK? I know slides burn up fast and wheels de-laminate, but that is many different models. As far as I know they come with high quality rebuildable shocks?
I want to get the low down as I still have the new skid I pulled out of my RTX, and may have the opportunity to buy an brand new 05 RX-1. For what I feel is a great deal on the sled, I am thinking of picking it up, but I really like the versatility of a 136" or 144" sled. I am contemplating putting the Pro-Active CK in the RX-1 using a combination of setback and rail extensions to achieve the desired length.
I have learned a lot about the Monoshock RA and all of the issues and fixes available through this site. I am curious if the Pro-Active CK had any common or unique problems. (Cracking arms, rails, etc...)
Any factual information on the reliability of the CK suspension as well as opinions of those who have ridden the CK are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I put 10,000 incredibly hard miles on my 07 RTX skid before the front arm failed. The only reason it failed is because the center shock blew making it incredibly stiff. I got 5,000 miles out of one set of slides and wheels. The slides wear fast to about 1/4 left and then they hardly wear at all. I am pleased with my skid. The stock valving is stiff on small bumps and soft on large bumps. I would recommend a revalve. This season I am running the pioneer revalve. Next season I will be looking to stretch mine as well.

I found that the Pro-Active suspension (05 Vector) was really bouncy and bottomed out a number of times. I think an Ohlins shock was a quite popular replacement in the rear, as it affords rebound adjustments. In the end I installed a ZX2 and was much happier with the way it handled the bumps after that.

The single thing I could not figure out was how to enable the use of the entire suspension travel - with no ratcheting. The suspension releases tension as it collapses. It was easy to crank up the coupling adjustment to the point where you could only use the top half of the travel - but that throws away half the suspension travel - and in my book takes the suspension out of the high performance realm altogether.
Shock valving issues go without saying. It's a Yammi.
From a performance perspective, there's also the rocker linkage that makes accurate valving near impossible. Guys pushing hard had issues with this part breaking as well.
You might want to go back and read some of the stuff written by ReX, myself, and a few others early winter 08 I think - when we started trying to figure out what it would take to make it to work. I bailed, replacing the suspension shortly after, saw no hope for it. FWIW
