I started taking the sled apart and when I pulled the oil tank there wasn't an o ring , it was like a homemade siLicone permatex gasket? I've been searching the exploded views and can't find a part number , is that what everyone uses or is there supposed to be an o ring between the outside of chain case and oil tank?

There is no need to remove oil tank from chaincase cover. There is a drain for oil tank. That said yes it is a silicone. I will find out what kind monday since oil tank removal is not in cat or Yamaha manuals.

I removed the oil then chain case cover to clean and replace both oils ugh the motor oil was like black!

It really does little good to wipe out inside of oil tank. If oil is black soon after changing it I would just change it again and figure out if it running really rich or something. No need to remove oil tank. Is this your first service on this sled?

I bought it used and just wanted to see the inside of the case everything looked good and that had an o ring, looks like the outside has the groove for one but I couldn't find it in any diagram ,I guess tomarrow I'll finish the project with some permatex in the garage

I know NOS Pro had his oil tank off and asked what sealer was used. I am sorry I cant remember what it was. Just be very careful tightening it down. Make sure it is seated evenly and as much as possible by hand pushing it on. Then screw the screws in.

I'm going to have to look up how long between sealing and filling with oil if it's a day thing or not

I looked in all the manuals. Cant seem to find it. Will ask the mechanic at dealer Monday.

I guess tomarrow I'll plan on starting a fire and sealing it up ,can't hurt to just let it sit and cure anyways for a day or two

Yes. Permatex Ultra Copper is what NosPro used small bead all the way around the groove.

The chain case cover uses an oring but the oil tank uses a sealant. Yamabond 6b is what you want if you go to a Yamaha dealer. I would recommend letting it sit for a day before refilling with oil.
