Protaper or Fatbars on my Phazer

Hello! I was thinking about getting a set of fatbar adapters for a YZ250 and mounting up a set of fatbars on my phazer. I have a couple of questions....

1. With the additional rise from the adapter and the additional bar width, will the stock cables, wiring, break lines be long enough?

2. How hard is it to remove the heated grips? And, are the stock grips and handlebar the standard 7/8" diameter?

3. I have the tall shield on my phazer. Are my hands going to freeze with the raised bar position?

Thanks for any input!

I'm not sure how much rise you will be getting from that setup, but your stock cables should be good for 2-3" more rise. Yes your stock grips and heaters are 7/8. I guess your hands freezing is dependent on your gloves and ambient temps but I took my windshield off and don't really miss it. :4STroke:

Anyone have recommendations for the best method of removing the grips? I've tried using compressed air on my dirtbike, but I've had better luck sticking a long screwdriver between the grip and handlebar, squirt in Windex, and repeat. I was wondering if I need to be worried about ruining the grip heaters, or are they encased withing the rubber of the grip?

Thanks!

if you have the j-hook bars you will need to get new handwarmers. use some aftermarket warmers, like hotgrips, and wire them up to your stock wiring harness so you can still use the toggle controls for heat. the stock warmers on the j bars are a "tape" heater that is next to impossible to re-use. if you still want j-hooks then go for the aftermarket plastic ones. as far as the rise, most protaper bars have a flat profile so with the adapters you should be o.k. on all the control cables. order a narrow pair. all the dirt bike bars are usually too wide. you might have to cut them down for comfort.

i have renthal cr hi bend fatbars on mine. i cut 1in off each side. i went with the rsi pivot adapter and 7in fly riser. the whole works is about 2-3in taller then stock and i moved the bars 1-2in forward. i put hooks in the endand used the 8" long sled grips over the hooks and the bars. the grips i got are from ODI. i do not run hand warmers and had to wire in a resistors so the engine light doesnt flash.

Did any of you guys use the stock riser ? i tried mine last night and to put the fat bar clamps on the stock riser you need thos 9 inch bolts to go all the way down the block? but the head of thos bolts wont fit in the fat bar clamps. so i was wondering if anyone bought different bolts or made the sotck ones fit ?
i know i could just get the riser but i dont have the money right now for them ?

Thanks Peter !

BTW, I think I've decided to go with a pair of standard Renthal 7/8" bars. I'm going to try the kx 80 high bends. They have a decent amount of rise compared to big bike bars, but not as much as ATV bars and they should bolt right up! I'll probably have to cut a 1/2" to an inch off both sides, but otherwise I think they are going to be exactly what I was looking for!

The KX80 high bends are less than 2 inches taller then the stockers. Anyone else have any feedback? Do you really think they will put too much stress on the stock bolts. The Nitros have much higher bars than the phazer and I don't think they use anything special for fasteners.

Any input would be appreciated as I would prefer to avoid face planting into my windshield if the bolts would let loose!

i ran an old set of 7/8 renthal polaris race team bend(crazy as hell bend see pic) for a while, they were about 1in taller and had no problems.

thanks, C&As are absolutley the best thing handling wise i have done. also on the spindle where the ski attaches there are bushing where the bolt runs through. if you look the bushings are offest. flip them around and they will offset ur skis 1/4in wider. every little bit helps!

as for the grips i used RSI 8in grips(not heated). used small crimp connectors and put a 7ohm resistors in the hand warmers and i think 45ohm in the thumb.. you can buy them from radio shack or equivilent
