Roman Rider said:For my first 10 years of snowmobiling I NEVER had a mouse issue. Then in 2008 I had to store the sleds in a rented shed near a wooded area and even though I loaded the shed with moth balls, we got nests in the belly pan. Since then I think the scent is still there and even though I'm back to storing them in our usual shed by our house, we keep getting mice. Dryer sheets, moth balls, mint packs, nothing has stopped them. Dcon at least kills them and I actually found 2 dead ones in the belly pan last November. Good point about the dcon drawing them into the shed.
This spring when I get them ready for storage I might try spraying down the engine & belly pan areas and the foam in there with simple green or something in hopes that it might get rid of their nest scent.
Oh, and I was naive enough to think that they couldn't get up into the exhaust on our apex's. Wrong! When I fired the sleds up in November my wife got a kick out of watching all the sunflower seed kernels flying out of my tailpipe when I would blip the throttle.
I have found chewed up dryer sheets in my belly pan, so instead of dryer sheets I may try buying lots of steel wool and stuffing that in all the usual nest sites and in the exhaust pipes.
Wow, you have some tough mice whereever it is you live?
I have used MothBalls, bounce sheets )and was recently told of bars of Irish Spring soap) and never have had a problem.
My sleds get stored outdoors in a covered trailer and I make sure all entrance points like the ski clamp areas etc get stuffed with steel wool.
I put moth balls all over the inside of my trailer than stuff the bounce sheets inside the sleds hood, belly pan, running boards etc and I am done and haven't had any problems to date. (touch wood)
