wife said she is no longer going to ride the old sx700. cant say that i blame her. going to pull the trigger on a phazer GT this week. i would like to know the top 5 +'s and the top 5 -'s. been doing some searching on here but i figured this would be easier. I really love my 09 vector L-TXGT by the way. thanks in advance guys!

Pros:
+Fun!
+Easy to throw around
+rider forward position
+with a few simple modifications the sled can perform WAY better
Cons:
-TIPPY
-compared to your wifes 700 this will be a DOG
-COLD if you dont have the knee & headlight wind deflectors and a real windshield
I would seriously go for a test ride before doing this.

Plus
1)No more sore knees from scrunched position of old sleds
2)No more 2st stink, carb cleaning or bad gas worrying
3)When suspension is right you will look for rough stuff
4)Throttle response is awesome on launch
5)Small engine and great suspension keep a guy from getting over their head in tough situations
Minus
1)Handling is active if driven hard and tippy if driven real slow over uneven terrain.
2)Lack of topend speed
3)Needs a more aggressive track stock
4)If you are wide in rear end the seat is to narrow
5)Usual Yamaha issues.Slide wear to far before stopping, handwarmers, lack of stock rollover valve, filter change to difficult.
Go into it with open mind, learn to ride a bit differently and you will undoubtedly have way more fun on this than any other sled you have ridden.

This is just my opinion, everyone will have something different.
+ Comfortable transition from sitting to standing/ easy to throw around
+ Initial Cost and cost of operation is low
+ Hands down the most fun I have EVER had on a sled.
+ 4 stroke!
+ Handlebars that won't hit my knees!
+/- Handling. I find it suits my riding style. Some hate it.
- Needs a lot of body English
- Can lack power in some situation
- Track
- Like Cannondale said, the usual things like slides.
Try it before buying it.

For a trail cruiser their are a lot of better sleds out there. I had an 07 Phazer and don't really have anything good to say about it because I spent more time riding the 600 etec that Yamaha rented for me while I waited for a new Starter. 0-50 it is a quick sled, but leaves a lot to be desired after that. It was great for a 50 mile ride on rough twisty trails, but was unbearable on a 300 mile ride.
Look into the RS series.

thanks guys!! hope to get some more comments. my wife rides slow so the old SX never "gets the lead out" when she rides it . i know the Phazer is 80 ponies and goes 80 or a little better . that is plenty of speed for whos riding it. down her in the SW lower its tough to ride much faster than 80 for very long anyway. the narrow seat might be an issue , maybe not. i will probably put more miles on the Phazer than my wife anyway. so it wont bother me to let her ride the vector when we ride together.

I've got a bigger backside and the seat doesn't bother me at all, 200 mile rides have been no problem.
My shocks are all re-valved & set up for my weight and riding style, helps too.
Buy it & have fun

If you don't buy new, be prepared to replace parts in the front end and steering. No one mentioned the poor stock skis. BTW, the VL is warmer if that is an issue.

My take on the situation....bought a 2011 Phazer GT for my girlfriend this fall. She was riding a 97 Vmax 700 for the past 9 years. She loves the upgrade. Took her some getting used to on being a little more of an active rider, but she loves it! Plenty of power and top end for her. She is 5'6" and 135lbs and has no problems handling the sled. It's all still stock, and after playing with the setup a little bit, it is great for her. No darting issues and handles very nicely! As long as your wife has warm gear, she shouldn't get cold riding this sled, even though it looks like you would.
On a side note, I made the mistake of letting her ride my Nytro this past weekend, and after a half hour, she gets off and makes the following comment to me....."I think I will be upgrading to a Nytro next year!" My only response was that "Never saw that coming!"

My wife loves hers. 07 Phazer FX. Did the tunnel blockoff, the fan upgrade, tall windshield and knee deflectors. Wifey came from a Viper with no regrets.
You couldnt pry that sled away from my wife if your life depended on it. Brisk trail rider. Never jumps or anthing like that and doesnt care to.
I ride an 09 Nytro. Having the Phazer around to switch off once in awhile is the best of both worlds. Even with the sloppy steering the Phazer is without a doubt the most entertaining sled I have ever ridden.
Sled runs to a solid 80. Cant say as I would really want it to be any faster as the sensation of riding this flat out is quite a bit different than your last sled.
Was actually hoping the Nytro was a little more like it.
