I have an Ohlins electronic shock I put on a Rage. I am going to send it to Pioneer performance to be revalved. I am about 250 lbs + riding gear, so probably about 270 lbs total and am a semi aggressive rider. I currently have the 16/64 L466 spring on it. But I have 3 other Ohlins springs for me to choose from. I have a 14/60 L405, a 08/48 L256, a 10/52 467. Should I stay with the spring that is currently on it?, or change to one of my other 3 springs, or should I be buying a totally different spring for my weight and riding manner. Thanks for any advice.

From my experience for your weight and riding style I would stick with the one that is on it - the 16 which is rated as a 6.5kg spring but be sure to let Bruce at Pioneer know which spring, your weight, and riding style as he will use those items when revalving the shock.

i would call bruce at pioneer on monday
716-496-6000.
i have the 6.5 bb spring in mine. bruce revalved my mono last year. had my spring set on the second clip. but then with snow and ice build up i cranked the preset all the way up and the comp. damping all the way hard. gonna move my spring to the 3rd setting and then back my adjuster down. still contemplating whether im gonna take my shock back out to bruce to have him stiffen up the 2nd and 3rd staging or not.
you wont be disapointed with the valving, just make sure you tell him everything so he can pinpoint your valves to you.

copo427ss - don't forget he is dealing with an Ohlins equipped mono-shock not a Kayaba Mono like the one found on your sled. The Ohlins shocks don't have the clip positions or the 7 position preload adjuster. One thing to note in your description of your set-up is to remember that the dial adjuster on the side of the tunnel is primarily a rebound adjustment (it does have a slight effect on compression dampening but not much). When you have it all the way to hard it is actually slowing down the rebound of your rear shock which if you are riding in rough conditions can cause your shock to rebound too slowly and not allow the shock to get fully extened between bumps resulting in a pitching or bucking feeling from the rear over multiple bumps.

thanks. ya learn something new everyday. i thought that the ra dial was compression settings all this time. hence,, harder-softer. lol that would explain why it was feeling funny at times.
if you remember the 2006 dvd of johnny skeptical, when they pull up to those 2 guys on the trail with the sled on the side adjusting the suspension for the rough trail ahead, johnny reaches down to the r/a dial and cranksit to harder if i remember right. guess they had it wrong too. lol

Want to swap out your 5.3 10/52 for my 5.5 11/54 i am about same weight as you,and drive very agressive, but last year i drove my 07 apex gt all stock with the 4.9 that came on it for about 1500 miles and liked it,except for the bottoming that accures during those drop holes that happen when driving into turns and hills, downhill drops, after talking to mike at carver performance,he tried to talk me out of the bigget 5.5 for the 5.2 he said was the european model spring, sounds like your 5.3 may be close,i had already gotten the 5.5 in the mail from my dealer not listening to me,so i decided to install it anyways, and i have to say,i liked the stock spring better,ya it still bottomed on those lg. holes, but i already knew it was valving it needed, and carver will get my buisness from now on,so if you want a bigger spring,i have one,if you are interested, but hurry, cause its going on e-bay tuesday. The european models are delivered with the 7.1 or 7.6 springs, nothing else. They are also delivered with approximately the double damping, compression as well as rebound. These specs are very close to the spec you get if you order an Ohlins aftermarket shock for a non-GT model (from an Ohlins dealer, not from Yamaha because that might be something completely different...).
If you are looking for a serious improvement in big bump performance, I can not think about a better starting point than one of the european specs. Take your shock to an Ohlins certified shop and tell them that you want a valving change according to spec YA658 (aftermarket Attak / Apex LTX), YA659 (aftermarket Apex), YA864 (OEM european RX-1) or YA866 (OEM european RX Warrior). You will not be disappointed. In fact, some of the "reputable" suspension shops are actually installing these exact specs and then sell them as their own...

I'm 400lbs. How/where do I get that 696-24 80 (8.1 kg) spring? I called Bruce today and he said the heaviest spring I can get is the 7.1

I know a guy around here at the same weight. I seem to remember that he is using that exact spring (696-24) at the standard preload setting on an otherwise standard LTX 40th shock. If you put this spring on one of the american shocks you might want to consider to change the rebound damping spec for something stiffer, otherwise I would guess it will be a bit underdamped, even though you are a big guy.
Actually, you can find even stiffer springs than the 696-24, but they are not recommended for this shock since they will coil bind before the full stroke of the shock.

i'm running the 5.5 spring with pioneers valving to match that spring and i'm 275#s , works very well for me. i actually set the spring a little softer than what bruce set it at and now you feel like your sitting down in the sled instead of like your sitting on top of sled, seems to ride smooth with out bottoming
