I am doing a 151x15x2.25 track, rail, and tunnel extension. I am going to 8 tooth drivers in the 2.52 pitch but what gearing should I try? I don't really care about top end to much but want real good acceleration and power for climbing in and out of trees. I believe my 07' Attak has 23-40 gears right now (stock ones) correct? If so would it be better to go up 1 or 2 teeth on the bottom instead of going down on the top gear to keep the chain from making to sharp a bend? Also I was wondering if I should get drop brackets for my Attak I tried asking this in the Apex/Attak forum but didn't get any response for the gearing question and got mixed responses on the drop bracket question. Would installing drop brackets like the stock ones on an Apex Mountain create ill handling on the trails? I am not sure but I think the mountain Apex and the Attak use the same front mounting point. Any help is appreciated.

If anyone has any suggestions, please advise!!!!

Thanks Mike, I can't believe nobody has any advice on this. I even posted over at snowest.com and have no responses yet. Mike do you remeber what post it was that had the mounting locations for the Apex mountain tunnel and the Apex/Attak tunnels? I have been trying to search for it and can't seem to find it again. How you coming along on yours?

I had 21/40 on my RX-1 mountain - it worked perfect for my 151" track with 8 teeh 2,52 pitch drivers. This was for bondoocking from 0-2000 feet.

What skid are you installing in the sled? I have the meassurements for the apex mountain skid if need

Hey tryanATTAK, How's it shaking????? I really liked your question and have been waiting for some one to answer it!

So TT, thanks for the advice..... I ride about those same elevations as you (1500-2200 feet) and am still "in the process" (i.e., still thinking about) extending my Mono on my Attak to 151".....

Goofy thing, I still have all of the parts for doing the extension in the garage, just a matter of doing it........

My wife really, really wants me to hold off a while before extending the Attak as she really, really likes the Attak as it is for trail riding and my Mnt Viper is tuned up really nice (so I do have a powder machine), so I may wait a year, for the sake of having a happier spouse......

But TT, did you ever take yours to higher elavation, like say 10,000 or so feet? What would be a good happy medium for good pulling down low, but also a decent track speed. Good back shift is also a must...... I imagine 21-40 would be much more suitable that 23-40.

Or how's about like 21-42 or 21-43?????

Thoughts anyone?????

TT I'm using the Mono just extending it out to 151" for now but someone posted the mounting locations for the Apex mountain a couple months back but I can't seem to find that post again. I am really wondering if using the drop brackets off a Apex MTX would be beneficial for getting the tunnel up out of the snow higher and providing more clearance at the back of the tunnel. Thanks for your experience with the gearing. Mike I have my track here, and the tunnel and rail extensions as well as the drivers ordered. So when it all gets here I'll get my son out in the garage to help and we'll get'er dun. I can't wait to try it out. I know the 8 tooth drivers will essentially lower the gearing some but I don't need to go over 100mph anymore so I just want that hard pull and climbing power. We just installed a 1.5 freeride on my son's 07' Phazer yesterday so we're both itching for some good deep UP powder to play in.

Is this the thread you are looking for?

TT That is the thread I was looking for so thanks for posting up the link. Only problem is when i open the files they both are for the Apex mountain even though one says Apex. TT do you have any idea whether the drop brackets would be beneficial or not or would it just screw up my whole suspension geometry? Gene

Sorry about the name on the files, but both of them are for apex mountain suspension.

If you don't have enough clearance for a 2" track you would need different drop brackets ;)!

I will have enough clearance when I remove the tunnel and heat exchanger protectors, but I am wondering if it would be beneficial to install drop brackets off an Apex MTX for running board clearance. I guess I'm worried that it will trench right up to the running boards and get stuck. I know all the mountain sleds run drop brackets to get the boards up off the snow higher for more clearance when pouring the coals to it. I guess I'll just stay with the stock brackets for now and see how it goes.

Jacking the rear of the sled up with drop brackets does get the running boards up, but will make your track approach angle higher. This affects the sled's ability to get up on top of the snow. Not sure to what extent this will actually make a difference in your situation. I had a short track Viper that I put drop brackets on and it seemed to trench more that way, so there might be a noticeable effect. And the Apex and Attak have a pretty high approach angle to begin with. Something to think about..
