I have a 03 shorty with 2205 mi. took a good look at track, noticed 2 broken lugs and light brown lines going width between windows. I take it these are the begining of cords showing thru? (was'nt studded)I've seen posted before that some guys were getting their tracks waranty for same condition. Was going upgrade to better track, but if i could get dealer to waranty track to better track all the better. Any imformation on this issue and what track to use for a aggresive rider on packed groom trails(Would stud)would be appreciated.

Yup....POS. Warranty may not cover it as it may be considered a wear and tear item. Probably depends on the dealer too.

Good luck. I thought the thing was junk so got rid of it.

RXONE, actually the track is/can be covered under warranty although they do consider it a wear and tear part. I think it will come down to his dealer and/or possibly the number of miles on his sled. Fortunately for me reading this forum last year, I heard of reports of others experiencing problems with their stock track (ie. fingers breaking off). I had every intention of studding it but thought if the stock track Yamaha put on this sled was a bad decision, then I was going to make them stand by their decision and warranty mine if problems existed. Well, after 600-800 miles I had fingers beginning to rip and even had some completely torn off. I took the sled to my dealer and showed him the track. He took pictures and sent them to their rep and they ended up replacing my track under warranty. I definitely wanted a better track and told them that unless they will continue to warranty this track every year, why not put on a better one. My dealer did state that they would not warranty the track again; something about a one-time warranty replacement (almost like when you but something with a life time warranty and you get it replaced once because only the one you bought had the life time warrany and the replacement one does not). I was able to upgrade to a 1.25" track and only had to pay the difference at their cost. The only downside to this all was that it was last year and the Ripsaw was not available then. Well, I ended up going with the 9854 but then later found that it wasn't much better than the stock and would actually rob MPH due to the way it was designed. I then contacted Tracks USA and Bruce let me trade-in my new 9854 and upgrade to a 9813 at a nominal fee.

LakeTom, the bottom line is that the track can be warrantied if you push your dealer hard enough. What may be different between you and me is the number of miles on your sled. I knew if I had problems I wanted to contact them immediately; although they did let me ride the stock track for the remainder of the season. I would contact your dealer and maybe even Yamaha and see what they can do. Maybe with the miles, they will only give you a pro-rate value but that is better than nothing.

Well I had mine warrantied, but its damage was due to something ELSE on the sled breaking. Control rod upper rings on '03 were bad. If they snap off, they will destroy the track. Thats why its one of the changes for '04. If you want a for sure warranty, do something to destroy the control rods. Agressive riding over bottom-out ICE bumps for days on end. Maybe remove it and bolt a steel cable into the threaded end, and a steel bar in the upper ring - hook it up to your truck. It is (by the way) totally illegal to destroy something on purpose so you can warranty it.
